Buffed ( spelling : buffed and buffed.de ) is a portal for computer games , operated by the Computec Media Group , with a focus on online games such as MMORPGs . It was launched on August 24, 2006 under the domain buffed.de; From August 22, 2007 until the end of 2016, the publisher also published a bimonthly print magazine. The name "Buffed" is derived from the colloquial English term for the working of strengthening spells in role-playing games ( to buff , German: polish up, refresh).

history

The portal was created around the database BLASC, which was designed by Marcel Anacker, Mathias Fabian and Benjamin Hirsch as a service for online role players. By 2006 it had developed into the largest collection of game tips and solutions in German-speaking countries for the MMORPG World of Warcraft . After the takeover by Computec, the database was expanded to include an editorial section with reporting and entertainment formats (e.g. podcasts) and officially presented on August 24, 2006 at the Games Convention under the new domain buffed.de with Heinrich Lenhardt as editor-in-chief. Lenhardt took over the position from the previous property manager Christian Bigge, who switched to Computer Bild Spiele .

In the first month, the portal recorded two million unique visitors and 57 million page impressions. In July 2007, according to IVW , the figures were 79.4 million page impressions, 10.6 million visits and, according to the publisher, 3.5 million unique users and 180,000 registered users. In November 2007, an English-language branch was launched under the domain getbuffed.com. The offer has since been discontinued.

magazine

On August 22, 2007, the first edition of Buffed appeared as a print magazine at the Games Convention.

In November 2009 Heinrich Lenhardt, who in his last year had mostly coordinated the editorial team from his new adopted home in Vancouver, gave up his position as editor-in-chief of Buffed and left Computec Verlag. The editor-in-chief of the print edition was taken over by Alexander Geltenpoth, the online editor-in-chief was transferred to Florian Stangl, who was in charge of all the publisher's online presence, and Simon Fistrich became the chief editor. At the beginning of 2012 Computec ended the membership in the IVW for the print magazine from Buffed, preceded by a readership decline of around 50%. The website was still recorded by the IVW. In 2012, Fistrich was also responsible for the sister sites pcgames.de, gamesaktuell.de and videogameszone.de as editor-in-chief online / digital at Computec-Verlag, while Oliver Haake was appointed editor-in-chief of the buffed print magazine. Dirk Gooding has been editor-in-chief for Buffed since 2014, Oliver Haake is the sole managing editor.

In 2016, the print version of the magazine was finally discontinued at the end of the year. The magazine is still available online individually and by subscription. The themes have now been partially integrated into the PC Games MMORE .
