The Naxçıvançay is a left tributary of the Aras in to Azerbaijan belonging to the Autonomous Republic of Nakhichevan .
The Naxçıvançay rises on the northeast slope of the Keçəldağ Mountain , at the interface between the Ajozdsorski Mountains in the west and the Sangesurkamm in the east. The river initially flows in a southerly direction, later in a southwesterly direction from the mountainous region. He passes the Şahbuz Rayon Administrative Center and picks up Kükü from the right. Then it is dammed by a dam, completed in 1983, to the Vayxır reservoir ( Heydər Əliyev adına (Vayxır) su anbarı ). The Sələsüzçay also flows into the reservoir from the north. Shortly thereafter, the Naxçıvançay changes direction and flows the rest of the way south. The Cəhriçay , the largest tributary of the Naxçıvançay, flows into the river on the right. Later the Naxçıvançay flows through the republic capital Naxçıvan , passes the district administrative center Babək and finally reaches the north bank of the Aras reservoir . The Naxçıvançay has a length of 81 km. It drains an area of 1630 km². Its mean discharge is 5.23 m³ / s.
