On May 15, 1943, it was sunk northeast of Havana at the coordinates 23 ° 21 '  N , 80 ° 18'  W by a Vought Kingfisher of the VS-62 squadron of the US Navy and the Cuban patrol boat CS13 . The entire crew of 52 men with Corvette Captain Reiner Dierksen lost their lives.
