After its commissioning on November 27, 1940 to December 31, 1940, the boat belonged to the 1st U-Flotilla in Kiel as a training boat . U 150 was towed into position for Operation Deadlight on December 20, 1945 by the British destroyer HMS Fowey (L.15) and sunk on December 21, 1945 at 3:05 p.m. by artillery fire from the British destroyers HMS Onslaught (G.04) and HMS Fowey . The position was 56 ° 4 ′  N , 9 ° 35 ′  W in marine grid reference AM 5243.
