U 232 was a submarine from the Type VII C , which in the Second World War by the Navy was used.

Sinking

A Liberator of the second USAAF squadron discovered U 232 on July 8, 1943 southwest of Cape Finisterre . The aircraft flew over the German submarine, threw four depth charges from a height of 15 m and then observed that the enemy appeared incapable of maneuvering and drove in a circle at the rear. The pilot decided to make a second attack, with the Liberator being so damaged by anti-aircraft defense that the bomb bay could no longer be opened. On the third and final approach, the crew accordingly opened the bomb bay by hand. The U 232 hit then sank over the stern ( position ).
