U 120 was a German submarine from Type II B , which in World War II by the German navy was used.

history

The order for the boat was awarded to Flender-Werke , Lübeck , on August 28, 1937 . The keel was laid on March 31, 1938, the launch on March 16, 1940, the commissioning under Oberleutnant zur See Ernst Bauer on April 20, 1940.

After its commissioning as a school boat, the boat belonged to the U-Boat School Flotilla in Kiel , which was renamed the 21st U-Flotilla on July 1, 1940 and relocated to Pillau , and then from March 17, 1945 to May 5, 1945 as Training boat for the 31st U-Flotilla in Hamburg .

U 120 was a pure school and training boat and did not go out to any company.

Whereabouts

The boat was self- sunk by its crew on May 5, 1945 in Wesermünde according to the rainbow order that had existed for a long time, but was canceled by Grand Admiral Dönitz on the evening of May 4, 1945 . The wreck was lifted in 1949 and scrapped in November 1950.
