Destinative

The destinative is a grammatical case that occurs in Basque or Mingrelian and expresses a determination (question: for whom / what?).

In Basque, the destinative is formed by adding the ending -tzat to the genitive possessive :

  • emakume a ›the woman‹ ( absolute singular )
  • emakume aren ›the woman‹ (genitivus possessivus)
  • emakume arentzat ›for women‹ (destinative)
