Big Light was a German pop band that enjoyed particular success in the mid-1990s. Her biggest hit was Trouble Is from the 1994 album Pop2000 . The single reached number 70 in the German charts, number 11 in the French dance charts and chart placements in Greece and Denmark.

Band history

The band emerged from the Berlin band The Lads, in which the two guitarists Sven Haeusler (brother of Johnny Haeusler ) and Pete played. The band name goes back to the song The Big Light by Elvis Costello . At the beginning the guitarist Sven Haeusler sang, the later singer Karl "Karlo" Hackenberger played the drums. After a short time, Hackenberger switched to singing and a new drummer was found, who left the band before the release of the first mini LP The Big Light , which was only released on vinyl . During the recordings, Andreas Perzborn from the Berlin band Plan B , with whose band members Big Light was not only friendly but also related to some extent, played as a guest drummer. When the mini-LP was released, the new drummer Robert “Robs” Feigel, who later played in the band The Jeremy Days , was found. After guitarist Pete quit, the line-up was supplemented by keyboardist Christian "Trainer" Mathis. Bassist Alexander Möbius was bassist for The Teens from 1976 to 1982 .

After Big Light was still strongly guitar-oriented in the early years and oriented itself towards bands and artists like The Clash or David Bowie , the group soon discovered the possibilities offered by samples, keyboards, etc., so that the music became more danceable and further developed high-quality pop music in terms of production technology.

In 1995 Big Light was the opening act for Wet Wet Wet on their European tour.

After the dissolution, Sven Haeusler worked as a producer (e.g. for the Lemonbabies ) and musician (with Karlo Hackenberger, e.g. at Cam-Era). Hackenberger works as a voice actor and is also still active as a musician (including with the band Koy and with his one-man project The Smallest Band in the World).
