The band The Teens was a music band that was mostly successful in Germany from 1978 to 1982 and sold around 5 million records worldwide.

Band history

The beginnings

The band The Teens was founded in West Berlin in 1976 as a school band by Michael Uhlich and Uwe Schneider . In 1978 the group was signed by the record company Hansa . The Teens played English-language pop rock in the style of the Bay City Rollers . In 1978 the band became known nationwide through an appearance on Wim Thoelke's program Der Große Preis .

The successful time

The producer was Norman Ascot . Her first single Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme Your Love was released in 1978. It was also her most commercially successful and reached number seven in the German single charts . The title 1-2-3-4 Red Light reached number 16 in Germany, the title Give Me More 18th place. The Teens released five albums by 1982, most of which were composed by Norman Ascot. T. with Tom Cunningham. Sound engineer was David Allen.

The teens' first album had 90,000 pre-orders before it was released and reached number two in the German LP hit parade.

The group's popularity was strongly promoted by Bravo magazine . In 1979, The Teens were the first German band to be awarded a Bravo Otto in gold as the most popular pop group. (Bravo Otto's: 1978 bronze, 1979 & 1980 gold, 1981 silver). The then Bravo photographer Didi Zill wrote some songs for the band. As the first West German pop / rock group, they were allowed to tour the GDR .

After the single New York, written by Dieter Bohlen , hit the charts again in 1981, the band broke up the following year.

Comeback in 1996

15 years after the breakup, The Teens got together again in 1996 for a second attempt (without Möbius). Tom Bopp (Western Union, Petticoat) took over the bass. Keyboard player Chris Wirsching (Western Union, Petticoat, Flashback) was also new.

The CD Past and Present '76 -'96 was released as a greatest hits album and contained five new titles (including two new recordings of their early hits). A year later, Bauer also resigned. Then the band played in four: Möbius and Bauer were replaced by Sascha Urban (vocals; singer of the group UHF) and Oliver Ostendorf (bass). Keyboarder Matthias Binner was also a member for a while. In August 2008, the band performed live with Robbie Bauer as the singer in the SAT1 series Hit-Giganten , in which they took 10th place in the Rock aus Deutschland issue with Gimme Gimme… Your Love .

Up until the band Echt , there was no commercially successful band of minors for almost 15 years after the Teens in Germany.

Start-up

In 2016 the founding members Uwe Schneider, Michael Uhlich and Alexander Möbius got together again to perform under the band name "The Teens Core", where the word "core" stands for core. The first concert of this formation took place on June 17, 2017 in the Pirschheide in Potsdam. In 2020 the album Friends was released , the MDR television show Brisant reported on the comeback on June 13, 2020.

Life / projects outside the band

Uwe Schneider, Alexander Möbius and Michael Uhlich appeared in the ZDF hit parade in 1983 with George Meier from the Wolfsmond group and the Berlin musician Chris Louis. This one-time project was called Rotesand, whose only song was Wellenreiter .

In 1983 the LP Stinknormal by Marion Kramer was released, in which the four ex-teens Schneider, Möbius, Treptow and Uhlich participated as musicians. The Teens also went into the studio for pop singer Benny and made playback recordings.

Ex-teen singer Robert Bauer released his first solo album Teenage Diplomat in 1984 ; produced and largely composed by Tom Cunningham.

The second solo album by Robert Bauer (here under the name "Robbie Bauer"), Missing You , was released in December 2012. Most of it was composed and produced by Robert Bauer himself.

Alexander Möbius played as bass player in the band Big Light from 1988 . Today (2007) he works in event management.

Uwe Schneider published various CDs as a radio presenter ( RIAS Berlin , Hundert, 6 ). So in 1997 at 105'5 Spreeradio a maxi CD heart on reception with the title Meine Stadt ... this is Berlin .
