Thomas Schreiber (born July 24, 1959 in Cologne ) is a German journalist and program manager in the area of fiction & entertainment at NDR television as well as ARD entertainment coordinator.
Career
Born in Cologne, Thomas Schreiber studied literature , English and history from 1979 to 1983 at Bielefeld University . During this time he was already working as a freelancer for various radio stations (including WDR , SWF and DLF ) before he initially volunteered at Norddeutscher Rundfunk in 1988 and then became an editor at ARD-aktuell , Tagesschau and Tagesthemen . In 1990 he switched to the radio station NDR 4 , where he was responsible for media policy reporting. From 1994 to 1999 he worked for the NDR and WDR as a radio correspondent in London . He then returned to Hamburg, where he took over the management of the NDR program area culture / television for about 8 years , responsible for productions for NDR television , Das Erste , KiKA , ARTE , Phoenix and 3sat .
Since May 2007 he has headed the Fiction & Entertainment program area and is also the entertainment coordinator at ARD. Here he is u. a. responsible for the German broadcast of the Eurovision Song Contest . For his work as production manager at the ESC 2011 in Düsseldorf , he and the event team were awarded the German Television Prize in the category Best Entertainment / Show in October 2011 . In 2011 he became a member of the Reference Group of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which hosts the ESC.
In 2015, Schreiber came under fire for the decision of Xavier Naidoo without nominating the usual preliminary decision as the German representative for the ESC 2016 in Stockholm. The nomination of the singer was criticized because Naidoo is assumed to be close to the right-wing extremist Reich Citizens' Movement and his texts are criticized as anti-Semitic and homophobic. The decision to nominate Naidoo was withdrawn by NDR on November 21st.
In addition to his work for radio and television, he is the editor of various books by and about Arno Schmidt as well as a detective novel series at Rowohlt Verlag .
