history

On April 1, 1989, NDR Info started under the name NDR 4 as a word-oriented information and culture program. From 1998 to 2004 NDR 4 (from June 2, 1998 under the name NDR 4 Info, since 2002 under the name NDR Info) was gradually converted into today's information and music program.

The information program

Hourly schedule

NDR Info broadcasts a compact information program Monday to Friday from 6:00 am to 7:50 pm and on Saturdays from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, the program sections of which rotate within the framework of a fixed "hour clock". There are original news at the full and half hour . At 15 minutes after and before the full hour there are news without quotes and correspondent recordings. Weather and traffic information is added to all four hourly messages. In the meantime, the daily events are processed journalistically in reports, analyzes, comments and glosses. Some of these are self-produced, some come from the ARD correspondent and author pool. There are also fixed topic sections: Northern Germany Compact with news and short reports from the broadcast area, always at 10 after. The sports news is broadcast at 5 a.m., new business news at 8 p.m. and culture, i.e. reports on film, theater, music and literature, at 5 a.m. Culture tips are broadcast at 9:57 a.m. and 11:57 a.m. as well as at 3:57 p.m. and 5:57 p.m. This is where current events in the broadcast area are pointed out.

News magazines in coproduction with WDR

Together with the WDR , the NDR produces three current information programs every day, which are broadcast simultaneously on NDR Info and WDR 5 . The lead alternates between the two institutions on a weekly basis, i.e. H. In the weeks in which the NDR produces the midday echo , the WDR is responsible for the echo of the day and today's reports , and vice versa. For the two echo broadcasts, NDR Info is suspending its hour clock.

Midday echo

The midday echo runs daily (Mon-Sun) from 13:05 to 14:00 on NDR Info and WDR 5; messages are interrupted from 1:30 p.m. to 1:35 p.m. On Sundays and national holidays, the midday echo ends at 1.30 p.m.

Echo of the world

As part of the midday echo, the international magazine Echo der Welt runs on Sundays from 1.30 p.m. to 2.00 p.m. , also broadcast on both waves.

Echo of the day

The Echo of the Day is broadcast daily from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Today's reports

At 11:30 p.m. the half-hour news magazine Reports from Today will be broadcast. In contrast to the other two joint broadcasts, today's reports are only broadcast from Monday to Friday, but in addition to NDR Info and WDR 5, they are also broadcast on WDR 2 and on the NDR regional programs. Until January 3, 2014, the show was also taken over on Nordwestradio .

Evening / weekend program

On Sundays and public holidays as well as on weekdays in the evenings, the tradition of the former word and switching program NDR 4 is continued.

Word programs in the evening

A short radio play for children is broadcast every day at 7:50 p.m., “ Ear bear - radio stories for little people ”. The daily news is taken over from Monday to Sunday at 8:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. This is followed by the short feature " ZeitZeichen ", produced jointly with the WDR , which takes a current anniversary as an occasion for the theme. From Monday to Thursday, from 8:30 p.m. onwards, a current topic will be dealt with in detail in the “Forum” program, and sometimes an interview or a report with a time reference will be broadcast. On Fridays, on the eve of the Sabbath, a magazine on Jewish topics (“Shabat Shalom”) is broadcast instead of the “Forum”. At 8:50 p.m. and until 9:00 p.m., comments on the program “Standpunkte” follow.

After the 9:00 p.m. news, one-hour talk shows on Tuesday to Thursday, both on time-related and on topics related to modern everyday life. The satirical magazine “Intensiv-Station” is broadcast here on Monday, and a radio play on Saturdays and Sundays.

The word program on Sundays and public holidays

On Sundays from 6:00 a.m. to 8:15 p.m., a word program with 30- to 60-minute themed programs is broadcast, some of which were produced especially for the Sunday program, but some also represent repetitions from the weekly word program in the evening. In this context, Christian services are also broadcast live in the mornings; In the early morning, religious communities of various origins have the opportunity to present themselves. The Sunday word program also offers space for longer features and reports. The talk takes place on Fridays from 9:05 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Sundays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The program ends with the musical theme "Adagietto" by Francis Goya.

Music broadcasts

During the rest of the time, NDR Info broadcasts U-Musik programs that contain music programs from a wide variety of directions beyond the programming of mass-oriented waves produced by NDR and private organizers, some of which are thematically focused and designed and moderated by music editors.

A jazz program is broadcast daily from 10:00 p.m. (on Saturdays also between 8:15 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.), and the "night club" between 11:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. (on Sundays also between 8:15 p.m. and 9:00 pm, Monday to Friday interrupted by the “Reports from Today”) and then until 6:00 am the unmoderated “Night Lounge”. The music journalist Ruben Jonas Schnell , who founded the Internet radio station Byte FM in 2008 , has been a regular employee of the nightclub since 2002 .

The news outside the "hour clock"

NDR Info sends the central news of the NDR every full hour outside of the broadcast times of the so-called info program. The wave name “NDR Info” is also justified at the times of the music program insofar as the listener can be sure to be able to hear the news at any hour, regardless of the time of day or the day of the week.

Complementarity to other NDR waves

For friends of word radio, NDR Info can be expanded by combining it with word programs from other NDR waves. At the provisional end of the NDR Info word program at 10:00 p.m., Welle NDR Kultur offers a daily literature reading; There is also a morning reading by NDR Kultur, which is broadcast every half hour from 8.30 a.m. In addition, NDR Kultur broadcasts a 30-minute culture magazine every working day from 7:00 p.m. On Wednesdays, NDR Kultur also offers a radio play. Word-oriented connoisseurs of the NDR programs can almost continuously take up a varied word program by switching. In addition to the information program of the “hour clock”, the national waves of NDR 1 offer in-depth, longer-lasting news magazines with a regional focus at several times a day, which listeners familiar with the NDR can also use as a supplement to NDR Info by switching.

Program variants

NDR Info is broadcast in three different versions.

The actual NDR info

The main version of NDR Info is broadcast via the VHF stations in Lower Saxony, Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, as well as via DAB + , DVB and Internet livestream .

Since October 15, 2012, the program has been split up Mondays to Saturdays from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., according to the news every full and half hour, to show the weather for Lower Saxony, Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to send specifically for each federal state.

The weather for the Lower Saxony region is broadcast via satellite, DAB +, DVB-C and NDR Info Spezial, and all regional versions of the program can be heard on the Internet.

NDR info special

NDR info special

NDR Info Spezial is the special version of NDR Info . In addition to the main program, sea weather reports, live broadcasts of important parliamentary debates and sporting events, the ARD information night and the Cosmo program between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. will be broadcast.

On the VHF transmitters of NDR Info in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the midnight sea weather report from NDR Info special was taken over daily before the medium wave transmitter was switched off on January 13, 2015. The reason for this was that no NDR medium wave transmitter could be received in sufficient quality on large parts of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania coast.

NDR Info / Radio Bremen parliamentary radio

In the state of Bremen, which officially does not belong to the NDR broadcasting area, NDR Info / Radio Bremen parliamentary radio is broadcast. This is NDR Info as a program framework (main program), which is interrupted by Radio Bremen Parliament Radio - the Bremen parliamentary radio program - as a program window. The meetings of the Bremen citizenship are broadcast live on Radio Bremen parliamentary radio. The parliamentary broadcasts are called Radio Bremen Parliamentary Radio because it is an offer from Radio Bremen . If there is currently no conference, the station takes over the program from NDR Info. The station is broadcast with the RDS identification "Bremen 5 / NDR Info" on the frequencies 95.0 MHz in Bremen and 98.3 MHz in Bremerhaven as well as on DAB + channel 7B.

In 2009 the team of reporters received the Lighthouse Prize from the journalists' association Netzwerk Recherche . This recognized the outstanding, continuous research work of the journalists, including a. the uncovering of disastrous billion-dollar transactions at HSH-Nordbank and reports on the appearance of Bundeswehr pistols on black markets in Afghanistan.
