NDR Plus (also "NDR Plus - the North German Schlagerradio" ) is a special radio channel of the North German Broadcasting Corporation (NDR). The program is intended to broadcast “the best of more than 50 years of hit history”, as well as international hits, evergreens and instrumental music.

The program replaced the traffic announcement service NDR Traffic on July 5, 2016 at midnight on the dot via DAB + and via livestream . At NDR Traffic, traffic reports were read out through voice output around the clock until NDR Plus started . In addition, the program received a place on the ARD radio transponder on January 17, 2017 and can now also be received throughout Europe via the Astra satellite system.

background

According to the NDR a number of listeners missed the pop - genre of the NDR in the previous program, which is why the station began a hit radio despite the declining interest in this kind of music. NDR Plus should only represent a " digital additional offer " and not a full program. It should be created with little financial outlay and making extensive use of synergies . The new program was made possible by an amendment to the law after the parliaments of the four state treaty states ( Hamburg , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein ) had approved a corresponding amendment to the NDR digital radio state treaty .

The national programs of the NDR have gradually developed their musical color away from hits and towards pop music. The NDR has thus taken the demographic development in the transmission area into account. However, this resulted in a supply gap, especially for the older audience, who could no longer recognize themselves in the NDR's radio offering. This gap is to be closed by NDR Plus.

The program

NDR Plus broadcasts hits and easy listening 24 hours a day . Most of the titles are in German unless they are purely instrumental music. The self-designation for the format is "the best from more than 50 years of hit history" . With a few exceptions, the program is presented daily on Wednesdays from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m., and also in the afternoons on public holidays. Moderators from the four state broadcasting houses can be heard alternately. During the rest of the time, pre-produced clips, the one-hour programs Schlagerparade and Klönschnack and once a month on Sunday evening Der Große Liederabend - a production by NDR 1 Niedersachsen .

NDR Plus differs from the usual web radios in five points and thus represents added value under public law for listeners in the broadcast area:

  • North German , especially Low German hits are present in the music rotation.
  • The news from the NDR is taken every hour , followed by a weather report and traffic information . Depending on the broadcast area and the broadcasting order, the messages increasingly take north German topics into account; Weather and traffic only consider the transmission area.
  • Excursion tips and event information for Northern Germany will be sent.
  • The categories Schlager ABC , Knapp op Platt and The day and its history are concise program components.
  • The program is ad-free, as are all NDR radio programs except NDR 2 .
