Rodrigo "Rod" Andrés González Espíndola (born May 19, 1968 in Valparaíso , Chile ) is a German musician , bassist , guitarist , composer and singer in the band Die Ärzte . He is also a producer and plays guitar for downhill .

González's parents were politically persecuted during the Pinochet dictatorship in Chile , which is why they applied for asylum in Hamburg and were given in 1974. González graduated from high school in Heidberg in Hamburg. He has an older sister named Claudia, who also works as a musician (Universal González) and costume designer.

In his youth González was a member of the bands "Massaker" and "Die Erben" as well as a big band. From 1986 to 1988 he played with the Hamburg punk band Die Goldenen Zitronen Banjo , from 1988 to 1989 he was guitarist with the Rainbirds and at the end of 1988 drummer with Stephan Remmler .

Careers with Depp Jones and Die Ärzte

González became friends with the " Doctors " drummer Bela B when they sang a kiss song together in a bar while drunk . He was also a member of the KISS Army fan club . Bela B quickly appreciated González's musical talent. After the temporary dissolution of the "Doctors" in 1988, they played together in the band SUMP, from which Depp Jones later emerged. Since the success did not materialize, Depp Jones broke up again in 1992.

When "Die Ärzte" reunited in 1993, González became a new member of the band. Unlike Depp Jones, he is not a guitarist with the “Ärzten”, but a bassist.
