Planet Punk is the sixth studio album by the German punk rock band Die Ärzte , which was released on September 18, 1995. Farin Urlaub describes it in the Die-Ärzte-biography An oversized guinea pig eats the earth as the band's “favorite album”. It reached number 2 in the German album charts, stayed in the top 10 for 7 weeks and was awarded platinum and gold.

Songs

"Schunder-Song" and "Hurra" were the two single releases ; There was a video for “Rod ♥ You” that was also frequently seen on VIVA and MTV , but only a promotional single was released for radio stations. The "Schunder-Song", one of the biggest hits, was named after the crew member and DRM employee Erik Schunder. It is about bullying and feelings of revenge. “Hurray” describes an ideal world in which all problems should be a thing of the past. The song refers to the reunification of Germany. At the end of the song there is a spoken excerpt by Scott Mosier ("That's beautiful, man.") From the film " Clerks - Die Ladenhüter " by Kevin Smith .

The sound sample at the end of "Geh mit mir" ("Skibbedy Wha Wha Whawawawa") comes from the Feuerstein family episode "Fröhliche Musikanten" (Season 1, Episode 2), spoken by the character "Hot Lips Hannigan". In the original, the sample begins with the sentence "And now, folks, the man with the granite throat asks the musical question:". This part was later used in the song "Vokuhila Superstar" on the album " Le Frisur ".

“My friend Michael” makes fun of Michael Schumacher ; Among other things, the monotony of Formula 1 races is parodied, in which he drives “ always in a circle ”; the speaking authority had taken out life insurance for him in her name. At the end, a sequence by Michael Schumacher himself from a Renault commercial is played in which he says: “ I still haven't had enough! ". The text was not printed in the booklet, instead only black censorship lines can be seen. The band justified the decision with the fact that the company responsible for the printing had close connections to Ferrari and it seemed too risky to let the text become known there before publication.

The tracks 1, 9 and 17 each start and / or end with a line from the film UHF - Sender with limited hope by Weird Al Yankovic .

The term misanthrope comes from the Greek and means “the misanthrope ”.

"Nazareth" has nothing to do with Jesus' hometown or the band of the same name , but is about a person who eats nasal secretions . According to the booklet, the song is a “special greeting to the vegan movement ” to which Bela B. has been a member since 2011.

In the song “Meine Ex (plodierte Freund)” come the lines: “ She had a sweet body, like one of the Krupps , what was his name? ". The answer to this question, the saying “ Dorp! “Is spoken by Ralf Däne himself. The answer to the line " Just now it was next to me, now it is everywhere ", namely " distributed in the room ", comes from Heinz Strunk . He also played the flute in this song and in "Rod ♥ You". In addition, the song "Meine Ex (plodierte Freund)" contains a reference to the song "Aliens" from the doctors album This is not the whole truth ... : " The next one was kidnapped by aliens ".

The title "BSL" stands for "Brutally fast noise", "Trick 17 mS" means in plain language "Trick 17 with self-tricking".

The co-vocals in “Geh mit mir” and backing vocals in “Rod ♥ You” are from Jasmin Tabatabai from the band Even Cowgirls Get the Blues. The singer Chichi can also be heard in “Rod ♥ You”, she also speaks the female voice in “Die Banane”.

layout

On the cover, designed by Schwarwel, there is an orange globe with golden continents on it. It was adorned with the punk attributes mohawk , safety pin and piercing . The album is sold as a digipack .

In the booklet with photos by Olaf Heine there are not only the texts but also some satirized advertisements. It is structured like a fictional magazine. This is the "anniversary edition" of Planet Punk , the magazine for female punkers, punk rockers and their friends (No.2) . On the back there is a picture of a razor blade and the words "100 years of punk rock - 1895–1995".
