Le Frisur ( French Le for Der ) is the seventh studio album by the German punk rock band Die Ärzte . It is a concept album (the only one of the band to date) on the subject of hair and hairstyles and was released on May 24, 1996, both as a CD and as a limited LP .

The album reached number 4 in the German album charts.

background

Originally, Le Frisur was only planned as an EP because too many songs had been produced for the album Planet Punk . B. Vokuhila Superstar or Straight Outta Bückeburg . So it was decided to write additional songs on the subject of hair in order to 'post it' as an EP. However, the doctors recorded a total of 17 songs in the relatively short time of 14 days, so that instead, much to the displeasure of the record company at the time, an entire LP was released.

The album begins with the explanation in which the band announces in the typical audition and singing style of soldier chants that it is a concept album that is exclusively about hair. Musically this is based on “Kings of the Wild Frontier” by Adam and the Ants .

The album is the least commercially successful album since the band's comeback in 1993. This may be due to both the less mass-compatible (because very absurdly weird) content and the fact that the incomparably more successful previous album was released relatively little time before and still strong was present. In 2003, Farin Urlaub said in retrospect:

“At the time, our company thought that we had screwed up Le Frisur because it had sold less well. But that's not the point. If it was only about that, Dieter Bohlen would be the best musician in the world. But it is not! "

Trivia

"Straight Outta Bückeburg" names several cities in the Weser Uplands with Minden , Rinteln and Bückeburg .

“Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow” is a reference to the Ramones song “Here Today, Gone Tomorrow”.

The count-in for “My baby was at the hairdresser's” is a sample from the Ramones LP “It's Alive”.

The sound sample for "Vokuhila Superstar" ("And now, folks, the man with the granite throat asks the musical question:") comes from the Feuerstein family episode "Happy Musicians" (Season 1, Episode 2), spoken by the Figure "Hot Lips Hannigan". In the original, the sample ends with "Skibbedy Wha Wha Whawawawa". This part was already used at the end of the song “Geh mit mir” on the album “ Planet Punk ”.

At the end of “Vokuhila Superstar” the fans of FC St. Pauli can be heard as a sample.

The line of text "Always funny and happy until your ass is in the coffin" is a quote from the Udo Lindenberg Song Grande Finale .

The cover photo of the album shows a tube-powered tape echo - effects unit of Klemt brand Echolette .
