We only want your soul is the second live album by the German punk rock band Die Ärzte , which was released at the end of 1999 as a triple CD or a six- disc vinyl box. The album was named after the book of the same name, written by Ulrich Bäumer and published by an evangelical publisher, which warns of the dangers of occult rock music.
background
The producer Uwe Hoffmann had made recordings of the concerts since 1993. To prepare the band for their next live album, Hoffmann should record four more concerts in high sound quality with the "GAGA Mobil".
The recordings came from Berlin (June 14, 1994, recorded by Radio Fritz ), Bonn (November 7, 1995, recorded by Eins Live ), Rock am Ring (May 18, 1997), Heilbronn (September 14, 1998), Siegen ( October 11, 1998), Mannheim (October 12, 1998) and Saarbrücken (November 7, 1998).
In advance, Die Ärzte announced that apart from “Elke” there would be no overlap with the first live album Nach uns die Sintflut . Much to the delight of the fans, the classic “Teenager Liebe” was featured a second time on a live release; but this (according to the biography) only accidentally. A live version of “Elke” was also released as a single and a comic video clip was produced for it. However, the recording that can be heard on the single comes from a different concert than the album version and is significantly different.
Since the single Men Are Pigs , the band's most commercially successful track up until then, had developed a life of its own beyond the band's taste (Am Ballermann and in Festzelten), the band decided either not to play the song at all or only with the accompaniment of the brass section of the former opening act, the ska combo the Busters to play. Such a version is included on the album.
As a bonus, a mini-CD was pressed, entitled "Invasion of reason" on the Doctors in mono 40-minute "Words II" recordings. The band's concert announcements for over 20 minutes can be found on the left and right audio channels.
The title of CD 1 No Sleep 'til Viehauktiönshalle Öldenbürg is an allusion to the Motörhead live album No Sleep' til Hammersmith from 1981, with the heavy metal umlaut used by Motörhead being parodied at the same time .
The title of CD 2 is based on a saying by the former bass player Sahnie , who was often teased by Farin and Bela at an earlier concert because of his reserved manner, to which the latter replied: “ Shut up and play! "
"Satanic Horses"
For fan club members there was a live encore for We only want your soul . Under the title Satanic Horses , Die Ärzte released another live record on which many other titles were represented that had not made it onto a live album again because of the overlap with Nach uns die Sintflut : including "Buddy Holly's Glasses" , "Popstar", "Too Late" and "Like on the first day".
