Thomas Wenzel , also known under the pseudonym Julius Block , is a German musician . He became known as the bass player for the Hamburg bands Die Sterne and Die Goldenen Zitronen .

Life

Thomas Wenzel grew up in Elmshorn in Schleswig-Holstein . In the 1980s he was part of the scene around the cassette label Fast Weltweit in Bad Salzuflen . There he was a member of the band Die Bienenjäger, which, in addition to the future Blumfeld head Jochen Distelmeyer, also included Mirko Breder , who played in the band Die Sterne . At the beginning of the 1990s, Wenzel moved to Hamburg, where he has since moved musically around the so-called " Hamburg School ".

Thomas Wenzel has been playing at the Goldene Zitronen under the pseudonym Julius Block since 1992, where he operates, among other things, synthesizers , bass, tape samples and the manual drum computer . In the same year he became a member of Die Sterne, who moved to Hamburg. He also works as a pedal steel player and sometimes as a singer for the Hamburg alternative country band Cow .
