The album was largely well received by critics. The music magazine Visions gave 8 out of 12 points and noted: "You can get used to the varied rhythm after a short period of getting used to it." One point of criticism, however, is "... the somewhat uniform coloring of the songs: in between a piece of the format" Widerschein "or" Trrrmer "would not have hurt."

The album received the highest rating from the online magazine laut.de with 5 out of 5 stars, the readers rated it with 4 stars. It is "... a round album that tells of inner restlessness in an inner calm. Not the large, new, trend-setting design for the end of the millennium [...], but a star album." The increased use of "... electronic frills, which undoubtedly represent one of the main musical developments of this album ..." and fit well into the sound of the stars was positively highlighted .

"Nobody who attacks the (pop) ether with open ears can escape them [the stars] or even give a damn. The fault for this is · as is so often the case when something sounds together in an appealing way · only the special mixed grace." writes Reinhold Aumaier from the Wiener Zeitung . He describes the sound of the album as easy listening; in contrast, the lyrics are "... equipped with all sorts of barbs and don't just scratch the surface."

In the 1999 annual charts of Musikexpress magazine , the album was ranked 34th.

The title Nothing as we know it is mentioned several times in the movie 3 Rooms / Kitchen / Bath from 2012 and played towards the end.
