Young, brutal, good-looking 3 , also known as JBG3 , is the third collaboration album by German rappers Kollegah and Farid Bang . It was released on December 1, 2017 via the labels Banger Musik and Alpha Music Empire . The album reached gold status eight days before its release in Germany by pre-ordering . The album met with strong criticism in some cases , with the artists being accused of misogynistic and anti-Semitic lyrics. After Kollegah and Farid Bang received an echo for their work in April 2018 due to good sales figures , the organizer of the award ceremony, the Deutsche Phono-Akademie , was heavily criticized, which ultimately led to the abolition of the award .

background

Kollegah and Farid Bang have already released the albums Jung, brutal, gutaussehend (2009) and Jung, brutal, gutaussehend 2 (2013), the latter of which was particularly popular. Both albums were released on the independent label Selfmade Records and indexed by the federal inspection agency for media harmful to minors .

In March 2016, Farid Bang announced a third part of the JBG series for the first time on the single 100 Bars . Another unofficial announcement was made on Facebook in August 2016 . At the beginning of September 2017, both announced that Jung, Brutal, Gutschend 3 would be released in December 2017; At the end of September the first single of the album was released with Sturmmaske on (Intro) .

"JBG-2 was really such a funny number [...] and JBG-3 is very, very similar to JBG-1 from the album."

- Farid Bang in the Hip-Hop.de Interview, December 2017

The recordings for the album were completed in October 2017. The title list was published on November 20, 2017; the album was finally released on December 1, 2017.

Due to the commercial success of Jung, Brutal, Gutaussehend 3 , Kollegah and Farid Bang announced that they would release a new edition of the album with the subtitle Platinum Was Yesterday . This version should contain two EPs with a total of 15 additional songs in addition to the regular album . In June 2018, however, the rappers announced that instead of a new edition of JBG3 they wanted to release an independent album titled Platin was yesterday . This was released on August 10, 2018 and was distributed by Groove Attack .

Track list

In addition to the main album, which consists of 17 songs, other songs were included in different versions of the album. An X-Mas Edition was released on December 22, 2017 and a New Year Edition of the album on December 29, each with an additional song.

On September 28, 2017, a teaser for the parody Pull your backpack by Kollegah and Farid Bang was published on the Banger Musik YouTube channel . In it they make fun of German Afro- Trap . On the same day, the first single Sturmmaske was uploaded to (Intro) on the Kollegah channel. The video was produced by Shaho Casado; Banger music co-founder Mohamed "Mo7art" Elbouhlali acted as production manager. The second single, Gamechanger , was released on November 2, 2017. Various rappers are dissed again in the song, including Miami Yacine of the KMN Gang and MOK, Laas Unltd. and Sun Diego. There are also allusions to the rapper Shindy, who is under contract with ersguterjunge .

The album's last single, Ave Maria , came out on November 30, 2017, one day before the album was released. In this single Bushido and Shindy , among others, were dissed by name.

The first single Sturmmaske auf (Intro) entered the German single charts at number 1 . For Kollegah and Farid Bang it was the first time that they were at the top of the charts with a single. For the first time in the history of the German music charts, two German rappers have also managed to place themselves in the top 5 of the charts with two different songs at the same time. In addition to Sturmmask auf (Intro) , they managed to get started with the song Zieh 'den Rucksack aus at number 4. The second single Gamechanger also made it into the top 10 of the German single charts. It reached 16 in Austria and 24 in Switzerland. The third and final single, Ave Maria , made it onto the five of the German single charts and into the top 20 of the Austrian and Swiss charts.

The album achieved gold status in Germany for more than 100,000 units sold eight days before its release date. On December 12th, the album was also awarded gold in Austria. In April 2018, it received a platinum record for over 200,000 sales in Germany. In the course of the indexing, the rap duo's record awards were withdrawn again. "

Jung Brutal Gutaussehend 3 reached the top of the album charts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland . For Kollegah it is the sixth and for Farid Bang the fourth number one success in Germany. In the German annual album charts 2017 it was ranked 4th and in the Austrian annual album charts 16th.

Reviews

source rating
laut.de
Rappers.in

The reviews of the album were average to negative. On laut.de , Jung, Brutal, Gutaussehend was rated 3 with 3 out of 5 possible points. The author Max Brandl describes it as “clearly the best part” of the JBG trilogy, but also thinks of the album with the words “Olympic powerlifting with expressions.” Rappers.in gave the album 2.5 out of 6 possible points. According to them, it sounds "like garbage".

Echo award 2018

Due to the commercial success was young, brutal, handsome 3 at the Echo Awards 2018 nominated twice, but the echo Advisory Council described the album due to the disrespectful and violence-glorifying texts, especially the bonus song 0815 , as "absolute borderline case". In the end, Kollegah and Farid Bang won the national hip-hop / urban category . The subsequent controversy about the award, despite the song text criticized as anti-Semitic , led to the abolition of the Echo in April 2018.

After strong criticism against the label BMG , which had published Jung, brutal, gutaussehend 3 , the latter announced at the end of April 2018 that it had terminated the cooperation with Kollegah and Farid Bang for the time being.

indexing

In September 2018, nine months after its release, the album was indexed by the federal inspection agency for media harmful to minors. For the indexing, the songs Gamechanger and When the enemy is on the ground contained on the album as well as the pieces Ghettosuperstars 2 and 0815 contained on the bonus EP "§ 185" were decisive. In its justification, the committee named a "[...] brutal and discriminatory effect on women." As a result of the indexing, the album may no longer be sold to people under the age of 18. The two previous albums had also been indexed.

In response to the indexing, Kollegah and Farid Bang released a new version of the album entitled Jung, Brutal, Gutaussehend XXX in late September 2018 . All tracks responsible for indexing were removed from the album. This means that this new version of the album is freely available again.
