Bossaura is the third solo album by the German rapper Kollegah . It was released on October 14, 2011 via the Düsseldorf label Selfmade Records . Bossaura entered the album charts at number 5 in Germany, 19th place in Austria and 14th place in Switzerland.
background
The recordings for Bossaura were made in Osnabrück , where Kollegah had previously set up a new studio together with rapper Sun Diego . According to his own statements, the rapper had already collected text ideas in 2010 before starting the actual production of the album in March 2011. It took about four months to work on the recordings. Some pieces were written in a relatively short time, whereas the song Du was changed over and over again over half a year. In order to optimally solve the subject of the song from his point of view, Kollegah used different music for you and revised the verses several times. After recording 30 songs, Kollegah selected around half of the songs for Bossaura and added a few new titles “to create a coherent, homogeneous album. “According to Kollegah, Sun Diego was completely involved in the creative process of creating the album. After completing the recordings, he also took over the mixing of Bossaura . The album was announced on August 12, 2011 by Selfmade Records under the title Flex, Sluts, Rock 'n' Roll . In a first interview with Kollegah about the album by the journalist Visa Vie , it was problematic for the Berliner to pronounce the album title correctly. As a result of this incident, Kollegah decided to change the title. At the beginning of September he revised the name of the album and subsequently referred to it as a “ working title. “Instead, Bossaura was set as the official title .

production
Most of the album was produced by Jay-Ho, a member of the Sunset Mafia group. These are the tracks Forever (Intro) , Spotlight , Jetlag , Lunar Eclipse , Billionaire's Club , Kobrakopf , Flex, Sluts, Rock'n Roll , and the limited-deluxe-edition pieces International Player Reloaded and Entertainment . He also produced the title Drugs in Den Jeans in collaboration with Cestro and Abaz, who also contributed the title Cosmopolit and, in collaboration with X-plosive , Bossaura and together with X-plosive and Böse Beatz Kokayne . Another member of the Sunset Mafia, Jeff K, was responsible for the background music for Bad Girl and the iTunes bonus track 2 Sexy . 2 Bough , the third member of the producer team, produced the songs IHDP and, in collaboration with Saabitza, Money . The producer Shuko was also responsible for the music for the song Business Paris . With H&F , a production by Gee Futuristic and X-plosive was also contributed. The music for Outro is the result of a collaboration between Dirty Dasmo and Jamil.
Sun Diego explained in an interview that the music on the album is deliberately differentiated from the earlier songs. The productions are increasingly based on commercially successful American songs. The Antares Auto-Tune program was used to correct the pitch of some pieces . AdLib was also used for the recordings .
Versions
The album was released in three versions with the Standard Edition , the Limited Edition and the iTunes Edition . The iTunes Edition includes the song 2 Sexy as a bonus track. It also has a digital cover and contains the videos for the pieces Lunar Eclipse and Business Paris . In addition to the 18 pieces of the Standard Edition, the Limited Edition contains the bonus songs Internationaler Player Reloaded , Entertainment , a collaboration with Sun Diego and John Webber, and Cosmopolit as well as a T-shirt and a poster.

Videos and songs
The original title song of the album Flex, Sluts, Rock 'n' Roll was implemented as a video as the first track. The recordings were made in Wiesbaden, the capital of Hesse . For the first time, Kollegah took on the direction and coordination of the production for the video. The camera settings were taken from the Mainz Benz, who had already shot videos for an arrest warrant , among other things . This was followed by a video about the collaboration with the French rapper Ol Kainry Business Paris . As a third song, lunar eclipse was implemented visually. This was viewed a million times on the YouTube video portal within a few days, making it top of the national and international charts on the platform in the field of music . Jetlag followed on October 3, 2011 as the fourth video release of the album. In addition, a clip of Kobrakopf was filmed with Farid Bang and arrest warrant. On November 7th, a so-called split video for the songs Drugs appeared in Jeans and Spotlight . Like various other video clips from Selfmade Records , this one was shot by the production company KMX Media. The title Kokayne was filmed without Kollegah by the three guest musicians Sun Diego, Locke and John Webber. Kollegah's stanza does not appear in the video either. The ninth song Du was visually implemented in Belgrade in mid-December 2011 .
As in the run-up to his previous releases, he organized trips with Kollegah to market his third solo album. Recordings were made for these and processed as videos. The first contribution from Zurich appeared at the end of August. A video from the Balearic island of Ibiza followed . A report from the French capital Paris was published at the end of September 2011 . In addition, videos from the Republic of Montenegro were released , where Kollegah also made interview appointments. Photos from Los Angeles and Las Vegas followed in mid-November .
In addition, at the beginning of September, after reaching 50,000 fans on the social network Facebook , Kollegah published a free song under the title Facebook Exclusive . Another free song on the Internet followed on September 13, 2011 with the theme song Bossaura . Bossaura was also published on the CD of the November / December issue of the hip-hop magazine Juice .

reception
success
Bossaura entered the German album charts at number 5. Kollegah's third album reached number 2 in the independent charts, which were first collected on behalf of the Association of Independent Music Companies. The album was 100th in the fourth week of the chart. In Austria, Bossaura entered 19th place. It could only be on the album charts for a week. In Switzerland, Kollegah reached position 14 on the charts. After two weeks the album got out of the media control charts again. Bossaura has sold more than 40,000 times.
criticism
- Album title
The renaming of the album from Flex, Sluts, Rock 'n' Roll to Bossaura was interpreted in part as a provocation against the rapper Kool Savas . He had previously announced his third solo album entitled Aura for November 2011. Kollegah denied a deliberate confrontation and referred to his song A Good Day to Die from 2007, in which he used the term Bossaura . In an interview, the rapper reported that he only found out when he registered his new album title with sales that Savas would release an album with a similar title. Various media representatives such as Oliver Marquart expressed doubts about a coincidental overlap.
- Musical criticism
In a review by the Laut.de e-zine , Bossaura received three out of a possible five evaluation points. The responsible editor, Max Brandl, sees Kollegah's numerous puns as the reason for its popularity. In particular, the text of the title song Bossaura is praised for its pun. The “ multiple reconstructions ” and, according to Brandl, “ inhuman high-speed passages ”, such as in the piece of lunar eclipse, are positively emphasized. In the almost four-minute long rap, Kollegah speaks over 800 words and thus creates a rate of 9.27 syllables per second. The contributions of the rapper Sun Diego, who appeared several times on the album, are praised both for his verses in Billionaire's Club and for his verse sung, making him " a great partner for a collaboration album " with Kollegah. On the other hand, Haftbefehl and Farid Bang seem like Kollegah " lost and ultimately degrade themselves through performance. " Brandl also expresses negative criticism of the beats on the album. These are often diametrically opposed to the rapper's lecture “ in terms of originality [...]. “The cheap“ plastic beats ”were more prominent on every release, so that“ over time they have become an increasingly central musical motif ”. The background music to the songs Drugs in Jeans , Undercover and Spotlight was rated particularly negatively . On the other hand, Brandl finds positive criticism for the " atmospheric, gloomy, restrained beat " by Bossaura and for the productions of Flex, Sluts, Rock'n Roll and Du . The editor sees another negative aspect in the frequent use of the Antares Auto-Tune computer program , which the rapper does not need to use. In summary, with Bossaura , Kollegah “ cemented his status as one of the best MCs in the country. "
The website Meinrap.de published a review in which the opinion is expressed that Kollegah wanted to make music for the " large-capacity disco " with Bossaura . To achieve this, the rapper uses beats that are stylistically " between Dirty South and David Guetta " and the auto-tune effect. The first video Flex, Sluts, Rock'n'Roll already shows that this musical basis can be " incredibly annoying ". The editor found the catchy hooklines from Sun Diego and Kollegah to be positive. The pieces Jetlag , Business Paris , Drugs in Jeans , Cobra Head and Billionaire's Club are highlighted as " highlights ". In terms of content, the light does not stand out from previous pieces such as Sommer . In contrast, you are a " real surprise ". Kollegah describes lovesickness without affecting his image. The chorus sung by Sahin, on the other hand, is criticized negatively. Finally, Meinrap.de states that fans of Kollegah's earlier releases in particular will “have their problems with this album ”.
Oliver Marquart, editor-in-chief of Rap.de, wrote a review in which he also expresses negative criticism of the productions. Spotlight , Bad Girl , Billionaire's Club and IHDP are “ more reminiscent of French house than French street sound, more of Ibiza than Miami. “The trashy productions are supplemented by“ borderline ”hooklines and auto-tune, which is annoying in its“ permanent audacity ”. Unlike Max Brandl from Laut.de, Marquart praised the contributions by Farid Bang and the “ brilliantly issued ” arrest warrant. The pieces Money , which is characterized by a successful refrain, Business Paris and Du are also rated positively. The risk of developing stylistically is commendable, with Bossaura only becoming worth listening to through the " songs held in the traditional Kollegah style ". Marquart finally recommends that Kollegah should concentrate on its strengths, such as the presentation technique and the “ verbal short films ”.
- Criticism from listeners
The influence of the hip-hop musician Sun Diego on album production and the associated use of the Auto-Tune program was in part received critically by supporters of Kollegah. This was reflected, for example, in the founding of a group under the title Against Sun Diego Influence in Kollegah's Music within the Facebook network.
controversy
An announced concert at the Kulturkombinat JZ Kamp in Bielefeld caused a controversy. The General Student Committee of the University and the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences, the Feminist Department, the AntiKnastGruppe and the Autonome Antifa Bielefelds demanded that the program manager Cayan Cankatli cancel the Kollegah's appearance because of the “ more than questionable and despicable content. “The rapper's lyrics. Cankatli pointed out that Kollegah breaks taboos with his provocative texts, but thereby reflects the " reality of life of young people ". The children's and youth association Die Falken, which is subsidized by the city of Bielefeld and has an agreement on the use of the premises with the Kamp, also expressed its criticism of the planned concert. Due to the controversy, ticket sales for the performance in Bielefeld increased, so that the organizer switched to a larger venue with the stereo.
Leaderboard
At the beginning of December 2011, the editorial team of the Laut.de website voted Kollegah's album number 19 among the best hip hop albums of the year.
Request for indexing
In mid-2012, applications to index the albums Bossaura and Jung, brutal, good-looking , were submitted to the Federal Testing Office for Media Harmful to Young People. While the federal authorities enforced an indexing in the case of the collaboration album with Farid Bang, the application for Bossaura was rejected.
Bossaura Street EP
At the end of December 2011, Selfmade Records made the Bossaura Street EP available for free download. It features eight songs from the Bossaura album , for which the producer Abaz produced alternative music. These are Still , Billionaire's Club , Bossaura , Flex, Sluts, Rock 'n' Roll , Drugs in Jeans , Undercover , Cobra Head and Lunar Eclipse . The guest contributions by Haftbefehl and Farid Bang on Kobrakopf and Sun Diego on Billionaire's Club are not included in the new versions. In addition to Abaz, Cestro was involved in redesigning Flex, Sluts, Rock 'n' Roll and Undercover . Beatdown Audios is also a co-producer of Kobrakopf .
