from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Photo sharing ( english photo sharing ) is the issuing and transfer of digital photos in the Internet . The user can either use his private photos and share them with friends, usually in the form of a file hosting - service , or publish them and make them visible to everyone. The options for using photo sharing are equally dependent on the application and website used that support the uploading and playback of the images. The online photo galleries work in a similar way , but they are created and managed by individual persons, including the photo blogs.

The first photo sharing sites came into being in the mid-1990s and were used almost exclusively for online ordering of prints (target photos). A number of other photo sharing sites followed from the beginning of the 2000s, with the aim of providing permanent and central access to user photos and in some cases also video clips. As a result, there are various efforts on the part of the providers to promote the growth of members and to improve the entirety of the tasks of the respective application.

While photoblogs often only display medium-sized photos selected by the user in chronological order, photo sharing sites offer a variety of display options such as thumbnails or slideshows. Photos can be classified according to albums and provided with captions, keywords (" social tagging ") as well as subtitles and comments. Some photo sharing sites offer online organization tools that are comparable to popular photo management programs.

Some photo management programs contain their own photo sharing elements or integration alternatives to other sites in order to upload pictures to their sites. There are also applications with the purpose of operating photo sharing, usually these use peer-to-peer networks. Simple photo sharing functions can also be found in applications for sending photos by email, e.g. B. by drag and drop .

Photo sharing isn't limited to the internet or a computer. Photo sharing can also be done using a mobile device such as B. operate a mobile phone. With the help of the application, the photos taken are automatically forwarded to the photo sharing website or the photo blog, either directly or via MMS .
