Neue Deutsche Welle is the first solo album by the German rapper Fler . It was published on May 2, 2005 by Aggro Berlin . The Premium Edition of the same name was released on December 2, 2005.

In 2014 Fler released a follow-up album entitled Neue Deutsche Welle 2 .

Prehistory and origin

After Fler was able to celebrate an underground success with his first professional sound carrier, the collaboration album Carlo Cokxxx Nutten , which was created in collaboration with Bushido and also had several guest contributions on his first solo album Vom Bordstein bis zur Skyline , he was - after Bushido's departure - at Aggro Berlin more or less on your own. The label managed to make Fler known to a larger audience with the help of Aggro Announcement No. 4 , which entered the album charts at number 7. He also released his first single AggroberlinA in 2004 , which entered the German charts at position 59 and stayed in the top 100 for 10 weeks. After this marketing process, the rapper finally began work on his debut album.

Importance and Controversy

After Sido's album Maske, Fler's first solo album is the second record of the Aggro Berlin label, which entered the top 5 of the German album charts. Neue Deutsche Welle helped Fler achieve his national breakthrough and made him next to Sido the most important artist of the independent label.

The circumstances of the release of the phonogram and its contents gave rise to controversial discussions. In the run-up to this, the modified Hitler quote about the attack on Poland (Original Hitler: “They have been firing back since 5.45 am.” / Fler advertising: “On May 1st they will be fired back” in Fraktur) was advertised. For this reason, among other things, and because of individual lines of text (e.g. "This is black-red-gold - hard and proud, you can't tell, but believe me, my mum is German", on NDW 2005 ) Fler got for his solo -Album Criticism from many sides, the artist was accused of flirting with neo-Nazi ideas. In a report by the ARD magazine Polylux, the rapper justified his sometimes very provocative titles with the guest appearances on his album, all of which were of foreign origin. Aggro Berlin also fought vehemently against the accusation of racism: “None of our artists or employees is right-wing radical. This accusation is absurd and has no basis. ”(Aggro Berlin press release, published in June 2005). Fler himself was dismayed by the allegations and explained in interviews and at concerts that he was by no means a neo-Nazi, that he hated such people and would continue to have nothing to do with them, and that he himself didn't even know why he was being treated like this reproach. Apart from that, before the “Nazi debate” on the album against neo-Nazis, he said: “I beat Nazis ...” ( AGGRO ). With his track Identity , which was released shortly after the album, he again takes a specific position on the allegations (e.g. “I'm not a Nazi, I'm a German with an identity” or “Would Nazis rap, believe me, would be they are all already dead. You want to fuck someone now, fuck the NPD! ”), explains where the hatred in his songs comes from and continues to point out the, in his opinion, schizophrenic attitude of society, which wants to ban his music and that of others , but tolerate Quentin Tarantino's porn and movies .

The reviews of Neue Deutsche Welle were rather negative to mixed:

  • The online magazine laut.de criticized the album from start to finish and only awarded 1 out of a possible 5 points:

A completely talentless young man - you really shouldn't talk about an MC, a Master of Ceremony (or even just a mic controller) in such a poor performance - has nothing to tell, but does so loudly over boring, uninspired beats. [...] In the tried and tested Aggro Berlin manner, storytelling is largely dispensed with, instead thick-egg poetry galore. "Abtörn-Görl", the only track that, with the help of Sido, tries to tell a story, does so, in keeping with the title, on an instrumental that is so crazy that one can rely on the (by the way also completely new) slogans about fat, women who are too hairy and perspiring too much can hardly concentrate. "

  • The website HipHop-Jam.net rated the album, due to the good production, with 3.5 out of 5 points:

The entire album is peppered with pompous beats that you can't hear anywhere else in this form. What one can accuse Fler and what he [...] cannot deny is that his music is without any meaning. "
