Neue Deutsche Welle 2 is the tenth solo album by the Berlin rapper Fler . It was released on September 5, 2014 on the Maskulin Music Group label . It is the follow-up to the debut album Neue Deutsche Welle .

meaning

Fler describes himself as a patriot . He showed this in the past with the songs Deutscha Bad Boy and Das alles ist Deutschland (with Bushido ). In addition, he often demonstrates his position as a German minority in his home town of Berlin and in the German rap scene, which is made clear by the songs Im Bus at the back and Meine Farbe . As a result, false claims arose from time to time in the past that Fler associated himself with the neo-Nazi scene . These errors have largely been spread through some media. Fler commented on this as follows:

"They have no idea what environment I'm from, they don't know that I have 90 percent of foreigners in my circle of friends."

- Interview with the portal tikonline.de on May 19, 2013

Fler's patriotic texts are often classified as socially critical. Fler justified his texts with the following words:

"If I rap about Germany, then I want a new Germany, just like I want it to be."

- Interview with the portal rap.de on April 24, 2011

background

In October 2013, the album Neue Deutsche Welle 2 was first publicly announced. At the same time, Fler announced that he wanted to publish a socially critical album with NDW 2 . In November 2013, Fler said he had started work on the album and revealed that the album will be distributed by Sony Music . At the beginning of December 2013, Fler announced on Twitter that he had two songs for NDW 2 completely finished. On February 11, 2014, Fler stated that Neue Deutsche Welle 2 would appear on May 9, 2014. Beginning in March 2014, he announced that the rapper Cro and Marteria on NDW 2 dissed to have. Around the same time, the rapper Sentence announced that he would have a guest post on the album Neue Deutsche Welle 2 . The preliminary tracklist of the album was published by Fler in late March 2014. In addition, Fler published the pre-cover for the album in March 2014, and announced the first single Stabiler Deutscher . Hipster Hass was announced as the second single in early April 2014 . In addition, Fler postponed the release date of NDW 2 to September 5, 2014 in April 2014. At the end of April 2014, Fler announced that the mastering of the album was carried out by the US-American sound engineer Chris Athens. In May 2014, the NPD used a line of text from Fler's previously published single Stabiler Deutscher . The rapper then sued the NPD. The final cover artwork was published by Fler in early June 2014. In addition, Fler removed his music videos from his YouTube channel and announced that he would like to present his music videos on the Vevo platform in the future . The video premiere of the song Level had previously been announced for June 1, 2014. On June 26, 2014, Fler announced that the recordings for NDW 2 had been completely completed. On July 29, 2014, Fler announced that he would like to release the track Guardian Angel as the next single. In mid-September 2014, Fler announced the bulletproof teenager as the next video release.

content

In terms of content and music, the album is a very versatile release. The content of the album is characterized in particular by the stylization of Flers as a German minority. Fler serves among others the genres gangsta rap and battle rap . With Back from Bonny's Ranch and Guardian Angel there are also profound, personal songs on the album. In addition, there is a disstrack on the album, Junge mit Character , which Fler uses to settle accounts with various artists from the hip-hop scene. These include the rappers Bushido , Nicone , Animus , Jalil , Toony , Farid Bang and Kollegah as well as the producers Hijackers , Beatzarre and Djorkaeff . In terms of rap, Fler goes back to his roots in some cases by rapping some songs in the Carlo Cokxxx hooker style and turning to street rap again , musically and in terms of content. However, there are also more modern trap tracks on the album. In an interview with Juice , Fler commented on the content as follows:

“Fortunately, a very cool record came out that has more of the“ Carlo Coxxx Nutten ”sound, but also integrates trap. I was never 100 percent satisfied with my last albums, and that was also due to the beats. In the past I have often set up producers of any kind, but this time I went straight to the professionals. I got four things from Therapy 2093 in France [...] and worked a lot with Brisk Fingaz. All in all, »NDW 2« definitely sounds hard and loud, dude! "

- Interview with Juice magazine on August 26, 2014

In addition, the songs Boy with Character and Gangster Rap 2.0 can be heard in different versions than they were previously published. Both appeared as free tracks before the album was released. The track Boy with Character was revised again for the album and Gangster-Rap 2.0 is even a completely new song on the album. In the lyrics of the album, the personalities Tupac Shakur , Marshall Mathers , Arnold Schwarzenegger , Jennifer Lopez , Karl Lagerfeld , Cristiano Ronaldo , Mesut Özil , Eko Fresh and Markus Lanz as well as the former German girl group No Angels are mentioned. The rappers MC Fitti , Casper , Majoe (from guest musician G-Hot), Farid Bang and Marteria as well as the German journalist Marcus Staiger will be “ thrown out ” . In addition, taunts against Bushido can be found in the lyrics, including by guest musician Sentence .

production

The background music for the respective songs comes from different producers. So steered Brisk Fingaz , Therapy and Iad Aslan the beats on the album. The titles Weisser Tupac , Businessman , Drogen, Nutten und Cash , Level and In the Eye of the Storm were produced by Therapy. Brisk Fingaz provided the background music for the songs Back from Bonny's Ranch , Guardian Angel , Boy with Character , Everyone in the Ghetto Knows Me , Mixed with the Concrete and Bulletproof Youth . Iad Aslan produced Hipster Hass , Stabiler Deutscher , you made us like that and Gangster Rap 2.0 . Sascha Kunstmann also worked on the production of the song Hipster Hass . The mastering of the album was carried out by the American sound engineer Chris Athens. Fler commented on the producers in the following words:

"I think that's the perfect mix [...] are exactly the producers who underline my strengths [...] exactly. [...] I am very satisfied with the beats. "

The song In the Eye of the Storm is also a collaboration with the artists Shizoe and G-Hot . The latter also has a guest appearance in the song Businessman .

Individual songs

White Tupac

White Tupac is the first track on the album's track list and can therefore be viewed as an album intro. At the beginning of the song you can hear a sample from the 1993 film Blood in, Blood out - Konsporen auf Leben und Tod . In the first verse, Fler raps about his career as a rapper and mentions the publications Carlo Cokxxx Nutten , Neue Deutsche Welle , Trendsetter , Südberlin Masculin , Im Bus right back and Blaues Blut . The core message of the song is that Fler identifies with the late American rap icon Tupac Shakur , because Fler, like Tupac before his death, drove a black 7 Series BMW for a long time , has established street rap in Germany, among other things, and has already had quite a few Has been attacked and attacked times and, as a German, feels as a minority in Berlin's immigrant districts . Since dark-skinned people are usually in the minority, the song is titled White Tupac .

Hipster hatred

In Hipster Hass , Fler makes clear his aversion to the hipster subculture in Berlin. The rappers MC Fitti and Casper are dissed in the song . Iad Aslan and Sascha Kunstmann provided the music for the song. Hipster Hass was released as the second single on the album on May 9, 2014.

Stable German

In the track Stabiler Deutscher Fler describes his life as a German minority in a district largely inhabited by immigrants. He speaks out against racism. In addition, Fler shows incomprehension that some players of the German national soccer team refuse to sing the national anthem. Here Mesut Ozil as an example. Stabiler Deutscher was released on April 4, 2014 as the first single on the album.

Gangster Rap 2.0

With Gangster Rap 2.0, Fler and Silla want to show that they are ahead of the German rap scene. In addition, they question the authenticity of other German rappers and consider them not credible. Overall, they hardly find any positive words in the song about the German rap scene. The title Gangster-Rap 2.0 appeared months before the album was released as a freetrack, but in a completely different version, in which the text, beat, flow and chorus differ greatly from the album version.

Guardian Angel

Guardian Angel represents a very personal song in dealing with a relationship with a woman. Even before the album was released, Fler described the song as the successor to his 2008 song Mein Mädchen . Brisk Fingaz created the beat for Guardian Angel . On August 22, 2014 the song was released as the third single from the album.

The video was blocked on YouTube due to copyright infringements because the song Labyrinth of Dreams by the US music group Nox Arcana was sampled without permission for the song's instrumental .

Boy with character

With Junge mit Character there is a more than 6-minute disstrack on the album. In the text, Fler accounts for the rappers Bushido , Nicone , Animus , Jalil , Toony , Farid Bang and Kollegah as well as the producers Hijackers , Beatzarre and Djorkaeff . Boy with Character appeared on February 17, 2014.

Everyone in the ghetto knows me

Everyone in the ghetto knows me is a track with which Fler rap-technically goes back to his roots. In the song, Fler describes a normal day in his life. He raps about fitness, fights and studio sessions. Fler rapped the sentence “ Everyone in the ghetto knows me, electric window lifters” in 2003. The track was produced by Brisk Fingaz.

illustration

There is a cover for each version of the album. The cover of the Standard Edition is by Katja Kuhl. This shows Fler from the side, carrying an eagle on his arm. In the foreground is Fler's logo and the label Neue Deutsche Welle 2 and the symbol of the Masculin Music Group label is shown at the bottom right . The photo of the cover of the Premium Edition was shot by Murat Aslan and designed by Dirk Rudoplh. It shows Fler as an eagle hanging on a cross, the wings of which are supposed to represent the letters FLER . In the middle of the artwork is the inscription Neue Deutsche Welle 2 . The graphic designer Adopekid is responsible for the design of the Amazon box . Fler commented on the album artwork as follows:

“I think I have the four biggest people when it comes to CD cover art. [...] I am really proud to have worked with these people. [...] The Neue Deutsche Welle 2 album should be a classic and then, in my opinion, you need a special artwork. [...] I really value it. "

From Laut.de received NDW 2 a positive rating. In the song Boy with Character, Fler delivers " a brilliant performance from a narrative point of view ". The song Zurück aus Bonnys Ranch was compared to the Eminem song Cleanin 'Out My Closet and marked " a clear highlight not only thanks to the epic beat ". The album was also praised in terms of sound: “ What works on a production level continues lyrically: Fler perfects the Americanization of his own sound from album to album and turns Rocky's" PMW (Pussy Money Weed) "into a German rap banger . With the song “ Drugs Nutten and Cash”, Fler also delivers a “quite entertaining counterpart”. Overall, NDW 2 shows a Fler in top form, which hardly anyone fooled in terms of authenticity even in 2014.
