Toony [ tuni ] (born March 16, 1984 in Kędzierzyn-Koźle , Poland ; real name Thomas Chachurski ) is a Polish rapper . He gained fame in the German and Polish- speaking areas with his song, Your Strength .

Life

When Toony was two years old, his family immigrated to Germany and settled in Düsseldorf . There he dropped out of school after the 12th grade, but later obtained the technical diploma . Toony then turned to rap music. His debut came in 2007 with a guest appearance on the album Alphagene by Kollegah . Appearances in regional clubs and discos followed.

In 2008, together with Sahin , he published the music video Deine Zusammenarbeit on the online video platform YouTube . In this video he urged young Poles in Germany to reflect on their Polish roots. A little later, Toony signed a record deal with the Polish hip-hop label Prosto . Together with DJ Tomekk , he worked on his bilingual mixtape Ehrenkodex , which was initially due to appear in late summer 2009, but only appeared in early April 2010.

In July 2010, it abolished the produced Sahin Single Time is running out , the MTV Urban charts at first

After working with DJ Tomekk , Toony worked on his debut album, which is called Over The Top Reloaded . The album was released on July 15, 2011. The only feature guest on the album is Kollegah on the song Sie haten uns noch noch represented, the content of which ties in with Toony's debut on Kollegah's album Alphagene . The album also contains your strength as a bonus track.

The EP S.ZWAB was released in 2012, and in February 2014 the second studio album, Stabil , was released, which reached 34th place in the album charts determined by Media Control in the first week of sales .

criticism

While his songs were criticized as nationalistic at the beginning of his career in Germany, he was insulted as Szwab in Poland and criticized for rapping in German . That was - as he thinks - a difficult time for him, in which he always emphasized that he had never felt like a German, and this song ( “Your Strength” ) was written for Germans so that “in the West one can see Polish patriotism and national pride ”.

Toony came under fire again at the beginning of 2013 after the television magazine Stern TV published a web service that made it possible to statistically break down the countries of origin of fans on Facebook pages. The application revealed that well over 50% of the rapper's Facebook fans come from non-German countries - including larger groups from countries such as Colombia , Nepal , Uruguay and Vietnam . This suggested that a large part of the so-called " likes " on Toony's artist side were bought in order to artificially help the rapper to become more relevant in the social network. In connection with the publication of the service, Stern TV warned against the agencies concerned, some of which are said to be using unfair means to obtain a larger digital following for their customers in return for payment.

Only a little later, the scene's internal information platform hiphop.de reported on the purchase of 2,000 YouTube subscribers from the musician from an online service provider. A music video for the song Stand up again , which Toony had published shortly before together with the singer Manuellsen on the YouTube channel Aggro TV , was taken off the net at the same time due to manipulated audience numbers.

The short message service Twitter blocked the rapper's account in 2015 due to highly insulting statements with partly racist content, which he had made via his user account. A video that shows Chachurski hitting a man in the face without warning in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant also gained criminal relevance. This approach brought the musician, who had repeatedly professed his Catholic faith, massive criticism of credibility from his audience.
