Eko Fresh Presents: German Dream Allstars

The reckoning is a song by the German rapper Eko Fresh . The song was released on the Juice CD No. 49 on December 23, 2004 and is a disstrack against various other rappers, including his former mentor Kool Savas . It triggered various response songs from the attacked musicians and is part of one of the most important battles in German hip-hop history . In March 2005, Die Abrechnung was also published on the label sampler Eko Fresh Presents: German Dream Allstars .

background

Eko Fresh booked Kool Savas in 2000 for an appearance on the occasion of his 17th birthday in Mönchengladbach for 1,500 DM . According to Ekos, Savas was impressed by his raps, whereupon Eko signed in 2002 as an artist and backup rapper for Savas with his record label Optik Records . After several joint releases, however, Eko Fresh left the label following the release of his EP König von Deutschland in autumn 2003.

A little later, Eko brought out the albums Ich bin jung und nicht die Geld as well as LOVE at Sony BMG , on which the singer Valezka , who was also involved with Optik Records from 2001, is represented many times. Both albums were able to place themselves in the German album charts , but were sometimes harshly criticized for their pop- heavy sound by the German rap scene, especially Eko's former sponsor Savas.

In response to these allegations, Eko Fresh released the song Die Abrechnung in late 2004 .

content

The German-Turkish heavyweight boxer and kickboxing world champion Cengiz Koç can be heard in the intro of the song . He makes an announcement to all enemies of Eko Fresh who would come up against him should they give Eko a hair. Then excerpts from songs by rappers Fler , Sido , Bushido and Kool Savas are recorded, in which they sometimes express themselves disparagingly about Eko Fresh.

In the first verse, Eko Fresh shoots almost exclusively at his former sponsor Kool Savas. For example, he accuses him of top dog behavior within the German rap scene: Savas tried to systematically keep artists like himself or Jack Orsen , who was part of the rap group MOR with Savas , down because Savas was afraid that someone else would Rapper is more successful than he is. In the course of this, Eko Kool describes Savas as the second Peter Sreckovic : Savas was employed on his label Put Da Needle To Da Records until 2001, before he parted ways with Sreckovic in a dispute, and one year later published Disstrack Track against Peter alleged fraud and dodgy business practices. Eko Fresh also attacks other artists in the Optik Records environment (including Caput , DJ Nicon, Ercandize , Illmatic and Amar ) and accuses them of envy, disloyalty and copying his rap style.

In the chorus, Eko Fresh explicitly mentions the hip-hop labels Optik Records and Aggro Berlin , whose time is now over because he is putting the crown back on. He announced that he would turn his back on pop-heavy music and rap again as in his early days. The song is his personal reckoning with the rap scene, because he "hate German rap, because now every monkey rapes German."

The second stanza is dedicated to the artists of the Aggro Berlin label. Here Eko initially expresses himself negatively towards the rapper Bushido, who dissed him at the beginning of his career, but at the same time emphasizes that he has now forgiven him. This is also evident from the fact that a short time later the first songs together by Eko Fresh and Bushido appeared and Eko signed a contract with Bushido's label Ersguterjunge in 2006 . Then Eko Fresh attacks the rapper Fler, calls him "fat potato " and accuses him of having Sentino write his lyrics . He also describes Fler as " gay " and denies him his status as a rap artist, as he would always be in the shadow of Sido at Aggro Berlin. He also accuses Sido himself of homosexuality and double standards because of his assfuck song , because he had made negative comments about Eko in interviews, but raved about him at a personal meeting. Finally, B-Tight and MC Rene also get swipes.

At the end of the song, Eko Fresh makes it clear that none of the attacked is a real “ gangster ”, but that everyone, like him, is just a rapper. He also highlights his own successes with his label German Dream and the wealth that goes with it, emphasizes his lyrical superiority over the other rappers and alludes to his upcoming studio album Hart (z) IV , which was finally released in 2006.

production

The song was produced by music producer DJ Rocky and the lyrics were written by Eko Fresh.

Music video

The music video for Die Abrechnung is in black and white and was shot in Eko Fresh's hometown of Cologne . It shows Eko rapping the lyrics aggressively while sitting at a table by the window in a cafe . In other scenes he walks through town in a winter jacket. In addition to other people from Eko Fresh's environment, the rappers Summer Cem and Manuellsen , who were under contract with German Dream at the time, can also be seen in the video.

Reactions from other artists

On February 7, 2005, Eko's former sponsor Kool Savas responded with the response track The verdict , on which he shoots exclusively against Eko Fresh for five minutes and accuses him of greed and cockiness, among other things. A whole series of response songs followed from the environment of Eko Fresh, such as Die Bestrafung , Die Directschrift and Savas Hunters from 2005 as well as 50 & Savas (also known as Savas du Knecht ) from 2007. Eko finally ended in 2010 with the Song The Objection , for which he used the same beat as The Judgment .

The aggro Berliner Fler responded in early 2005 with the song Hollywoodtürke , which in turn was countered by Eko Fresh with the track Flerräter . In addition to Eko, Bushido also appears on Flerräter , although he was previously dissed on The Reckoning himself . This was followed in May 2005 by the song Du Sacrifice by Fler and B-Tight , before Eko Fresh last published the song FLER .

Aftermath

The conflict between Eko Fresh and Kool Savas brought both increased media attention and is still considered to be perhaps the most important rap battle in Germany. The verdict is generally seen by many critics as the strongest and most outstanding disstrack in German rap history that has emerged from this beef . The common history of both artists occupied the German hip-hop media even years later. In 2009, a Twitter dispute between the two artists about the blocking of the music video for The Judgment on YouTube was accompanied by media. 2010 declared Kool Savas The decision to no longer want to play in the future live. Eko Fresh soon responded by removing Die Abrechnung from its live repertoire as well. Later, however, Savas revised his decision due to the increased fan demands for the title and the fact that he would no longer associate anything emotionally with the song.

In 2012, rapper Azad , a longtime musical pioneer of Kool Savas, sided with Eko Fresh on Facebook by declaring that he understood the point of view he had made towards Savas at the time.
