The canton of Boulay-Moselle is a French constituency in the Forbach-Boulay-Moselle arrondissement in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). Its main town is Boulay-Moselle .

history

The canton was founded on February 15, 1790 as part of the establishment of the départements as part of what was then the "Boulay District". When the then canton of Varize was dissolved in 1802 , the canton of Boulay-Moselle was expanded to include most of the villages in this canton. From 1871 to 1919 and from 1940 to 1944 there was no further subdivision of the " Bolchen District " at that time . Until 2015, 33 municipalities belonged to the canton of Boulay-Moselle. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of municipalities fell to 31. The previous municipalities of Boucheporn and Zimming moved to the canton of Faulquemont , the municipality of Holling to the canton of Bouzonville . At the same time, the community of Creutzwald from the canton of Bouzonville was added.

The canton is located in the northern half of the Moselle department on the border with Germany.

Its layout corresponded to an area of ​​235.45 km 2 .

In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the four candidate pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, the pairing Jean-Paul Dastillung / Ginette Magras (both UD) won against Josyane Bialek / Gérard Vuillaume (both FN ) with a share of the vote of 54.81% (turnout: 48.67%).
