Denting (German: Dentingen ) is a French commune with 274 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ).

location

The community is about ten kilometers west of the border town of Creutzwald .

history

The place was created after the Thirty Years War . Before that there was a village called Wellingen on the site . The only remnant of this period is the Saint-Henri chapel .

In 1937 the military camp Ban Saint Jean was built in the municipality , which today resembles a ghost town and has been declared a restricted area.
