Freybouse (German Freibuss ) is a French commune with 432 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement Forbach-Boulay-Moselle and the municipality association Saint-Avold Synergie .

geography

Freybouse is twelve kilometers south of the former mining town of Saint-Avold and about 20 kilometers from the Saarland border. The community area of ​​almost 6 km² is characterized by arable land and grassland, only in the west does the community have a share of 120 hectares of forest. The area around Freybouse is drained by the Ruisseau du Bischwald , a small stream that flows into the German Nied . The southern border of the municipality forms the national road 74, which runs on a ridge that separates the catchment areas of the Nied and the Albe , both of which finally flow into the Saar .

North-west of Freybouse is the fallow land with a 2,500 m long runway of Base aérienne Grostenquin , an air base of the Royal Canadian Air Force , which existed from 1952 to 1964.

Neighboring communities of Freybouse are Frémestroff in the north, Hellimer in the east, Francaltroff and Erstroff in the south and Grostenquin in the west.

history

The name Freybouse , which has been handed down since 1492, is made up of the German free and the French bous - from bois (= wood). The place first appeared in documents as Bouz in 1260 . The village was under the bishops of Metz . In 1793 and 1801 the parish name still had the spellings Freibouse and Freybousse .
