Mainvillers (German Maiweiler , Lorraine Maiwilla ) is a French commune with 335 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ).

The municipality of Mainvillers is located five kilometers southwest of Faulquemont on the road from Pont-à-Mousson to Saint-Avold on the German line of the former Franco-German language border , which is also officially indicated on the entrance sign for tourist purposes (“ 1er village de langue Francique "=" First village with Lorraine dialect ").

history

The place was first mentioned in 1121 as Manvilre and has belonged to France since 1766. From 1871–1918 it was temporarily part of the German Empire again .
