Barst is a French commune with 579 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Forbach-Boulay-Moselle arrondissement and the Freyming-Merlebach canton .

geography

The municipality of Barst is eight kilometers from the German-French border and six kilometers south of Freyming-Merlebach . Neighboring communities are (from the north, then further clockwise) Guenviller , Seingbouse , Cappel , Hoste , Maxstadt , Biding and Macheren . The demarcation consists of two spatially separate parts, between which a strip belonging to the Cappel district is pushed. In the southern part is the eponymous place Barst, in the north the district of Marienthal .
