in the Grand Est region

The Communauté de communes de Freyming-Merlebach is a French association of municipalities with the legal form of a Communauté de communes in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region . It was founded on December 3, 2001 and comprises eleven municipalities near the state border with Saarland . The municipal association has its administrative headquarters in Freyming-Merlebach ( German Freimengen-Merlebach ).  

Historical development

On April 29, 1975 the District de Freyming-Merlebach was formed with the seven member communities Barst, Betting, Cappel, Freyming-Merlebach, Guenviller, Hoste and Seingbouse. In 1989 and 1990 the municipality of Farébersviller and the municipalities of Béning-lès-Saint-Avold and Henriville were added. The present form as Communauté de communes received the District to support the transformation on 3 December 2001. The final Commune commune Hombourg-Haut joined on 14 November 2003 the municipal union.
