The French commune Schœneck ( German Schöneck ) with 2570 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) is located in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2016 Lorraine ), directly on the German-French border opposite the Gersweiler district of the city of Saarbrücken .
The closest French commune is Stiring-Wendel . Since April 2012 and the 350th anniversary of the neighboring Saarbrücken district of Klarenthal , Schœneck has had a partnership with it.
Culture and language
The official language is French , but German is widespread among the local population . For many Germans, Schœneck is a popular shopping destination, especially on weekends, just as, conversely, many French people shop in Saarbrücken.
