Zénauva ( Friborg Patois Tsènàvoua ? / I ) is a town and formerly an independent political municipality in the District de la Sarine (German: Saanebezirk) in the canton of Friborg in Switzerland . geography

Zénauva is located at 798  m above sea level. M. , nine kilometers south of the canton capital Friborg (beeline). The village extends on the eastern edge of the valley basin of the village stream of Zénauva, in the pre-alpine hill country at the north foot of the Cousimbert. The former municipality area was around 1.6 km². The narrow but elongated area was bordered to the west by the Zénauva stream. To the south it reached over the Burgerwald to the mountain ridge, which runs from the Petit Cousimbert to the northeast (up to 1450  m above sea level ).

With 142 inhabitants (2002), Zénauva was one of the small communities in the canton of Friborg before the merger. Most of the residents speak French. Various farm settlements and individual farms belong to Zénauva.

Zénauva still lives mainly from agriculture , especially dairy farming and cattle breeding . There are also some smaller arable land.

The village is off the main thoroughfares, the main access is from Le Mouret. Zénauva itself has no connection to the public transport network. The Transports publics Fribourgeois buses on the line from Freiburg via La Roche to Bulle stop on the main road at Le Mouret, around one kilometer from the town center.

history

The first written mention of the place took place in 1217 under the name Chinoua . Later the names Chienoua (1228), Chinowa (1393), Zinowa (1445), Tschinouw (1555), Schönauwo (1644; derived from a wrong interpretation), Zennauve (1755), Chenouvaz (1861) and the name appeared in 1906 Chenauvaz on. The place name is derived from the Latin words casa nova (new house).

Since the Middle Ages , the Hauterive monastery had property and clearing rights in the area of ​​Zénauva. In the course of the 15th century the village came under the rule of Freiburg and was assigned to the Old Landscape (Burgpanner). After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Zénauva belonged to the La Roche district during the Helvetic period and to the Friborg district from 1803 before it was incorporated into the Saane district in 1848 with the new cantonal constitution.

In 1996 the idea of ​​a large-scale community merger was born. On June 13, 2002, the voters of Zénauva voted with a yes share of 65% for the merger. With effect from January 1, 2003, the previously independent communities of Zénauva, Bonnefontaine , Essert (FR) , Montévraz , Oberried (FR) and Praroman were merged. The new parish was named Le Mouret .
