The village extends on a terrace on the southern slope of the Sonnaz , in the Molasse hills of the Freiburg Central Plateau . The former municipality area was around 1 km². The area reached from the broad valley floor of the Sonnaz southwards over the slope of Formangueires to the edge of the forest of the Bois de la Faye (up to 640 m above sea level ).

history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1294 under the names Villa Fromondeiri and Fromendeire . Later the names Fromenderie (1363) and Fromendeyri (1431) appeared. The place name is derived from the Latin word frumentum (grain).
Formangueires has been under the lords of Englisberg since the Middle Ages . From 1442 at the latest, the village came under the rule of Freiburg and was assigned to the Old Landscape (Spitalpanner). After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Formangueires belonged to the Friborg district during the Helvetic and the following period, before it was incorporated into the Saane district with the new cantonal constitution in 1848.
Formangueires and Lossy have been administered jointly since 1834. On January 1, 1982, therefore, the merger to the new municipality Lossy-Formangueires took place . This merged on January 1, 2004 with La Corbaz and Cormagens to form the municipality of La Sonnaz . Ecclesiastically Formangueires belongs to the parish of Belfaux.
