The population of Senèdes was 102 in 1900. In the course of the 20th century, the population decreased by around 45% to 56 people due to strong emigration by 1960. Since then there has been a significant increase in population combined with a doubling of the number of inhabitants within 40 years.

economy

Until the second half of the 20th century, Senèdes was a predominantly agricultural village. Even today, dairy farming and cattle breeding and, to a lesser extent, arable farming play an important role in the income structure of the population. Further jobs are available in local small businesses and in the service sector, including in wood processing companies. In the last few decades the village has also developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who mainly work in the Freiburg region.

traffic

The community is located off the main thoroughfares on a connecting road from Treyvaux to Arconciel . Senèdes is connected to the public transport network by a bus from the Transports publics Fribourgeois , which runs from Freiburg to Treyvaux.

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1233 under the name Senaide . Later the names Senaidi (1251), Senayde (1274), Synaide (1443), Synaidy (1449), Sinayde (1501) and Sinedi (1644) appeared. The etymology of the place name is not clear. Senèdes is probably composed of the prefix sen- (old) and the Germanic word heida (heather).

Senèdes has been under the rule of Arconciel since the Middle Ages . In 1484 at the latest, the village came under the rule of Freiburg and was assigned to the Old Landscape (Burgpanner). After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Senèdes belonged to the La Roche district during the Helvetic Republic and from 1803 to the Friborg district before it was incorporated into the Saane district in 1848 with the new cantonal constitution.
