The Neirigue is a 21 km long right tributary of the Glâne in the canton of Friborg in Switzerland . It drains a section of the southwest Freiburg Central Plateau and belongs to the catchment area of the Rhine . Neirigue is made up of the word components neire ( patois for noir ) and - (a) igue (old French for eau ) and thus means black water .

The headwaters of the Neirigue are located at around 900 m above sea level. M. in the foothills of the Molasse hills between the towns of Romont (FR) and Châtel-Saint-Denis in the municipality of La Verrerie . The stream flows as a small trickle to the northeast over the plateau, which was shaped by the Ice Age Rhone glacier . At Sâles the Neirigue draws an arc to the west and below Rueyres takes on the Ruisseau des Grands Marais from the left .

Now the Neirigue turns to the north and flows in a wide valley depression with a constant gradient of about 1.5% between the ridge of Berlens in the west and the range of hills of the Gibloux in the east. At the village of the same name, La Neirigue , the Mausson flows from the east . Below this village, the Neirigue flows again to the northeast through a narrow valley that opens at Massonnens . The river now moves in a flood plain up to 500 m wide and is accompanied by a forest belt. At 639 m above sea level M. the Neirigue flows into the Glâne at Autigny .

Long stretches of the Neirigue stream have been preserved in their natural or near-natural state. In the agriculturally intensively used areas, the water was straightened in sections and the embankments reinforced. The Neirigue is characterized by a pluvial runoff regime . In the past, their water power was used in various places to operate mills and sawmills.
