Villaranon is a town and formerly an independent political municipality in the Glane district of the canton of Friborg in Switzerland . On January 1, 1978 Villaranon was incorporated into Siviriez .

geography

Villaranon is 791  m above sea level. M. , four kilometers southwest of the district capital Romont (linear distance ). The village extends on a high plateau in the Molasse hills of the western Freiburg Central Plateau , between the valleys of Broye in the west and Glâne in the east. The former municipality area was around 2 km². The former municipal soil comprised the high plateau of Villaranon in the headwaters of the Glaney (left side stream of the Glâne) and reached in the west to the height of Les Dailles ( 832  m above sea level ).

population

With around 60 inhabitants (1970), Villaranon was one of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Friborg before the merger. Various individual farms also belonged to Villaranon.

economy

Villaranon still lives from agriculture , in particular from dairy farming and cattle breeding, as well as fruit growing . Thanks to the attractive location, families who are mainly employed outside of the village have moved into the village in the last two decades.

traffic

The village is located away from the major thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from the main road Romont - Moudon . Villaranon has no direct connection to the public transport network. The next stop on the Transports publics Fribourgeois bus line , which serves the route from Romont via Ursy and Oron-la-Ville to Palézieux-Gare , is located at the Les Genièvres farm, around 700 m from the town center.

history

The first written mention of the place took place under the name Villarnon ; In 1668 the name Villarranon was handed down. The place name is probably derived from the personal name Rantwico or Randonvico .

Since the 13th century, Villaranon belonged to the Romont dominion, which was under the sovereignty of Savoy . When the Bernese conquered Vaud in 1536, the village came under the rule of Friborg and was assigned to the Bailiwick of Romont. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Villaranon belonged to the Romont district during the Helvetic and subsequent periods, before being incorporated into the Glâne district in 1848. With effect from January 1, 1978 the small community was incorporated together with Le Saulgy to Siviriez .
