Chavannes-sous-Orsonnens ( Friborg Patois Tsavanè ? / I ) is a town and formerly an independent political municipality in the Glane district of the canton of Friborg in Switzerland . On January 1, 2001, Chavannes-sous-Orsonnens merged with the previously independent municipalities of Orsonnens , Villargiroud and Villarsiviriaux to form the new municipality of Villorsonnens . Chavannes-sous-Orsonnens lies at 656  m above sea level. M. , seven kilometers northeast of the district capital Romont (linear distance ). The village extends on the northern edge of the Neirigue valley , shortly before its confluence with the Glâne , in the Molasse hill country of the Freiburg Central Plateau . The former municipality area was around 4.1 km². The area comprised the range of hills Le Vusy ( 709  m above sea level ) and the forest Bois Mottau and was bordered in the west and north by the valley of the Glâne, in the southeast by that of the Neirigue. In the southwest it reached into the Bois de la Fortune ( 720  m above sea level ).

With 245 inhabitants (2000), Chavannes-sous-Orsonnens was one of the small communities in the canton of Friborg before the merger. Chavannes-sous-Orsonnens also includes the hamlets of Grange-la-Battiaz ( 685  m above sea level ) in the Glânetal, La Fortune ( 688  m above sea level ) on the plateau to the left of the Neirigue, Vers le Moulin ( 642  m above sea level) . M. ) on the Glâne and some individual farms.

economy

Chavannes-sous-Orsonnens was a predominantly agricultural village until the second half of the 20th century . Mills used to be operated on the Neirigue and Glâne. Today who have dairy industry , the livestock and agriculture an important role in the employment structure of the population. Further jobs are available in local small businesses and in the service sector. In the last few decades the village has also developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the Romont and Freiburg regions.

The village is located off the main thoroughfares on a road connecting Villaz-Saint-Pierre to Farvagny . Chavannes-sous-Orsonnens is connected to the public transport network by the Transports publics Fribourgeois bus service , which runs from Romont to Farvagny.

history

The first written mention of the place took place in 1209 under the name Chavanes . The place name is derived from the vulgar Latin capanna (hut, small courtyard). Since the Middle Ages , Chavannes-sous-Orsonnens formed its own small lordship under the barons of Pont-en-Ogoz . La Fille-Dieu monastery near Romont also owned land in the municipality.

From the end of the 15th century, all fiefdoms at Chavannes-sous-Orsonnens came under the rule of Freiburg. The new masters assigned the village to the Bailiwick of Pont-Farvagny. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Chavannes-sous-Orsonnens belonged to the Romont district until 1803, then to the Farvagny district during the Helvetic period and was incorporated into the Glâne district with the new cantonal constitution in 1848.

On September 7, 1866 the previously independent Granges-la-Battiaz was incorporated into Chavannes-sous-Orsonnens. As part of the municipal mergers promoted by the canton of Friborg since 2000, the villages of Chavannes-sous-Orsonnens, Orsonnens , Villargiroud and Villarsiviriaux were merged with effect from January 1, 2001. The newly created political municipality was given the name Villorsonnens.

Attractions

Chavannes-sous-Orsonnens belongs to the parish of Orsonnens. The Saint-Jean-Baptiste chapel was built in the 16th century and restored and remodeled in 1769.
