geography

Prez-vers-Siviriez is 765  m above sea level. M. , two kilometers south of Siviriez and seven kilometers south-southwest of the district capital Romont (as the crow flies). The village extends slightly higher on the eastern edge of the Glâne valley , in the Molasse hill country of the southwestern Freiburg Central Plateau . The former municipality area was around 4.2 km². The area comprised the uppermost part of the Glânetal with a flat valley plain about 300 m wide. The valley is bordered by the forest heights of La Moille ( 834  m above sea level ) and Sur la Gotte ( 861  m above sea level ) in the west, and by Fin d'Amont ( 852  m above sea level ) and Bois de Ban in the east ( 909  m above sea level ) flanked.

population

With 302 inhabitants (2002), Prez-vers-Siviriez was one of the small municipalities of the canton of Friborg before the merger. To Prez-vers-Siviriez belong some farm settlements (including Les Chaussets ) and individual farms.

economy

Prez-vers-Siviriez was a predominantly agricultural village until the second half of the 20th century . Even today, dairy farming , animal husbandry and, to a lesser extent, arable farming play an important role in the income structure of the population. A few other jobs are available in local small businesses (including an electromechanical workshop and a carpenter's workshop) and in the service sector. In the last few decades the village has also developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who mainly work in the Romont region.

traffic

The village is very well developed in terms of traffic, although it is off the main thoroughfares. The village has a connection to the public transport network thanks to the Transports publics Fribourgeois bus route from Romont to Prez-vers-Siviriez.

history

The Prez-vers-Siviriez area was settled very early, as evidenced by ceramic fragments from Roman times . The place was first mentioned in a document in the 12th century under the name Praels . The names Preez (1227), Preeaux (1228) and Prelz (1469) appeared later . The place name goes back to the Latin word pratellum (small meadow).

Since it was first mentioned, Prez-vers-Siviriez had belonged to the Rue lordship and subsequently shared its fate. When the Bernese conquered Vaud in 1536, the village came under the rule of Friborg and was assigned to the Vogtei Rue. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Prez-vers-Siviriez belonged to the Rue district during the Helvetic and the following period and was incorporated into the Glâne district in 1848. After the villagers had voted with a yes majority of 81% in favor of the parish merger, Prez-vers-Siviriez was incorporated into Siviriez on January 1, 2004, together with Chavannes-les-Forts and Villaraboud .

Attractions

The Sainte-Croix chapel was built in 1770. Prez-vers-Siviriez always belonged to the parish of Siviriez. Some characteristic farmhouses from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved in the village.
