geography

Mossel lies at 818  m above sea level. M. , three kilometers south-southeast of Ursy and eleven kilometers south-southwest of the district capital Romont (beeline). The small farming village extends over a promontory in a promising location east of the upper Broyetal , in the southwestern Freiburg Central Plateau . The former municipality area was around 3.2 km². The area extended from Montaney to the northeast over the heights of Mossel and La Crêta ( 872  m above sea level ) to the Glâne . In the east the area extended to the Maflon brook and over the trough of Invau to the La Râpe forest ( 875  m above sea level ).

population

With 133 inhabitants (1997), Mossel was one of the smallest communities in the canton of Friborg before the merger. The hamlets of Invau ( 805  m above sea level ) in the Mulde east of the Crêta and Fin de Vau ( 821  m above sea level ) on the southern slope of the Crêta as well as some individual farms belong to Mossel.

economy

Mossel still lives from agriculture today , especially from dairy farming and cattle breeding , and there are also smaller arable areas .

traffic

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a connecting road from Ursy to Porsel . Mossel is connected to the public transport network at certain times of the day by the Transports publics Fribourgeois bus line , which runs from Romont via Ursy and Oron-la-Ville to Palézieux-Gare .

history

The first written mention of the place took place around 1150 under the name Moncels . The names Muncels (in the 13th century), Monsez (1245) and Mossez (1258) appeared later . The place name is derived from the late Latin word monticulus (small mountain).

In 1245, Mossel was donated to the Haut-Crêt Abbey . When the Bernese conquered Vaud in 1536, the village came under the rule of Friborg and was assigned to the Vogtei Rue. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Mossel belonged to the Rue district during the Helvetic and the following period and was incorporated into the Glâne district in 1848. Mossel does not have its own church, it belongs to the Promasens parish . There is a chapel at the La Gotta farm.

As part of the community mergers promoted by the canton of Friborg since 2000, Mossel was incorporated into Ursy together with Vauderens and Bionnens with effect from January 1, 2001 .
