geography

Vauderens lies at 757  m above sea level. M. , two kilometers southeast of Ursy and ten kilometers southwest of the district capital Romont (as the crow flies). The village extends on the upper eastern valley slope of the Broye , in the hollow of the Dorfbach at the foot of the forest heights of Le Meylan , in the southwestern Freiburg Central Plateau . The former municipality area was around 2.4 km². The area encompassed the basin of the village stream of Vauderens and the adjacent slopes and extended to the east to the mostly forest-covered Molasse heights Le Meylan ( 866  m above sea level ) and La Crêta ( 872  m above sea level ).

population

With 481 inhabitants (1997), Vauderens was one of the small communities in the canton of Friborg before the merger. Some individual farms belong to Vauderens.

economy

Vauderens was a predominantly agricultural village until the second half of the 20th century . Even today, dairy farming , animal husbandry and, to a lesser extent, arable farming play an important role in the income structure of the population. Further jobs are available in local small businesses (including a construction company and a mechanical workshop) and in the service sector. In the last few decades the village has also developed into a residential community thanks to its attractive location. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the Romont, Moudon and Oron-la-Ville regions.

traffic

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a connecting road from Ursy to Porsel . On September 4, 1862, the railway line from Lausanne to Freiburg with a train station in Vauderens was put into operation. The railway tunnel to the north-east of the village , which led below the level of Le Meylan into the upper Glâne valley, had too small a cross-section so that the double-decker coaches of the SBB could not pass. As part of the Bahn 2000 project, it was therefore replaced by a new building measuring 1.78 km in length, which was opened in 2001.

The bus line of the Freiburg public transport , which runs from Romont via Ursy and Vauderens to Moudon , ensures the fine distribution of public transport .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in the 12th century under the name of Waldenens . The names Voudenens (1215), Woudunens (1256), Voudanens (1380), Vouderens (1403) and Vauderens (1668) appeared later . The place name goes back to the personal name Wuldwin or Waldilo and means with the suffix -ens as much as with the people of Wuldwin / Waldilo.

Vauderens belonged to the lordship and Kastlanei Rue since the Middle Ages . When the Bernese conquered Vaud in 1536, the village came under the rule of Friborg and was assigned to the Vogtei Rue. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Vauderens belonged to the Rue district during the Helvetic and the following period and was incorporated into the Glâne district in 1848.

As part of the community mergers funded by the canton of Friborg since 2000, Vauderens was incorporated into Ursy together with Mossel and Bionnens with effect from January 1, 2001 .
