Chapelle (Glâne) is 739  m above sea level. M. , 14 km south-southwest of the district capital Romont (air line), above Oron-la-Ville . The farming village extends on a south-facing slope east of the upper reaches of the Broye , in the south-west of the Freiburg Central Plateau .

The area of ​​the 2.0 km² municipal area includes a section of the Molasse plateau of the Freiburg Central Plateau. The area extends in a narrow strip on the hill range northeast of Oron-la-Ville from the plateau at Champ Deley to the north over the slope of Chapelle to the forest height of Les Esserts Dessus , on which at 806  m above sea level. With 291 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018), Chapelle (Glâne) is one of the small communities in the canton of Friborg. 92.4% of the residents are French-speaking, 6.6% German-speaking and 0.5% speak Italian (as of 2000). The population of Chapelle (Glâne) was 173 in 1850 and 146 in 1900. Only since 1970 (119 inhabitants) has a significant increase in population been recorded.

Chapelle (Glâne) was a predominantly agricultural village until the second half of the 20th century . history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1354 under the name Capella . Chapelle (Glâne) has belonged to the Rue dominion since the Middle Ages , which was under the suzerainty of the House of Savoy . When the Bernese conquered Vaud in 1536, the village came under the rule of Friborg and was assigned to the Bailiwick of Rue. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Chapelle (Glâne) belonged to the Rue district during the Helvetic and subsequent period and was incorporated into the Glâne district in 1848.

Attractions

The Notre-Dame-des-Champs chapel originally dates from around 1300, but was later changed several times. For a long time it was an important pilgrimage site. Until 1928 Chapelle (Glâne) belonged to the parish of Promasens , since then it has formed a separate parish with Gillarens .
