geography

Promasens lies at 607  m above sea level. M. , two kilometers south of Rue and 13 kilometers southwest of the district capital Romont (as the crow flies). The village extends slightly higher on the eastern edge of the Broye valley , in the Molasse hill country of the southwest Freiburg Central Plateau . The former municipality area was around 2.5 km². The area reached from the Broye eastward over the wide valley floor and the slope of Promasens to the plateau of Riondbochet ( 650  m above sea level ).

population

With 253 inhabitants (1997), Promasens was one of the small communities in the canton of Friborg before the merger. Some farm settlements and individual farms belong to Promasens.

economy

Until the second half of the 20th century, Promasens was a predominantly agricultural village. A mill used to be operated on the Dorfbach. Even today, dairy farming , animal husbandry and, to a lesser extent, arable farming play an important role in the income structure of the population. Some other jobs are available in local small businesses and in the service sector. In the last few decades the village has also developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who mainly work in the Oron region.

traffic

The village has good transport links. It is on the main road from Moudon through the Broyetal to Oron-la-Ville . Promasens has a connection to the public transport network thanks to the Transports publics Fribourgeois bus line , which runs from Romont via Ursy and Oron-la-Ville to Palézieux-Gare .

history

The first written mention of the place took place in the 12th century under the names Promesens and Promaisens . The names Promasens (1218), Parmesens (1251), Pormasens , Pormassens (1403) and Promagens (1755) appeared later . The place name probably goes back to the Burgundian personal name Promas (ius) and means with the suffix -ens as much as the people of the Promas.

Since the Middle Ages, Promasens has been under the rule of Rue. When the Bernese conquered Vaud in 1536, the village came under the rule of Friborg and was assigned to the Vogtei Rue. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Promasens belonged to the Rue district during the Helvetic and the following period and was incorporated into the Glâne district in 1848. With effect from January 1, 2001 Promasens was incorporated into Rue .

Attractions

The parish of Promasens has been mentioned since 1181. The current parish church of Saint-Pierre-et-Paul, a hall church in neo-Gothic style, was built in 1872 on the site of a previous building.
