La Joux ( Friborg Patois La Dzà ^?^/^I ) is a town and formerly an independent political municipality in the Glane district of the canton of Friborg in Switzerland . On January 1, 2003, La Joux was incorporated into Vuisternens-devant-Romont together with a number of other communities .

geography

La Joux lies at 858 m above sea level. M. , three kilometers south-southeast of Vuisternens-devant-Romont and eight kilometers south-southeast of the district capital Romont (beeline). The village extends on a hill gently sloping to the northeast in the Molasse hills of the Freiburg Central Plateau , near the edge of the Alps. The former municipality area was around 4.4 km². The area comprised the gently undulating hill country in the area of the headwaters of the Neirigue and its left tributary Ruisseau des Grands Marais . In the southwest it reached into the Forêt de la Joux , in the west on the slope of the Bois du Chanex ( 920 m above sea level ).

population

With 365 inhabitants (2002), La Joux was one of the small communities in the canton of Friborg before the merger. In 1900 the community still had 458 inhabitants. La Joux includes the Les Communs-Dessus settlement ( 900 m above sea level ) on the edge of the Forêt de la Joux as well as numerous individual farms.

economy

Until the second half of the 20th century, La Joux was predominantly an agricultural village. Today who have dairy industry , the livestock and agriculture an important role in the employment structure of the population. Some other jobs are available in local small businesses and in the service sector. In the last few decades the village has also developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who mainly work in the Romont and Bulle regions.

traffic

The place is off the main thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from the main road from Romont to Bulle . The next connection to the A12 motorway , which has been accessible from Bern to Vevey since 1981, is around four kilometers from the town center. La Joux is connected to the public transport network by the Transports publics Fribourgeois bus service , which runs from Romont via Oron-la-Ville to Palézieux-Gare .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1301 under the name Jour . Later the names villa de la Joux (1339), Villa Jurie (1527) and La Ville de la Jor (1591) appeared. La Joux was initially under the influence of the Rue lordship . When the Bernese conquered Vaud in 1536, the village came under the rule of Friborg and was assigned to the Vogtei Rue. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), La Joux belonged to the Rue district during the Helvetic and the following period and was incorporated into the Glâne district in 1848.

As part of the municipal mergers supported by the canton of Friborg since 2000, La Joux was incorporated into Vuisternens-devant-Romont with Lieffrens , Sommentier , La Magne , Les Ecasseys , Villariaz and Estévenens with effect from January 1, 2003 .

Attractions

La Joux had a chapel since 1729. The village was separated from the parish of Vuisternens-devant-Romont in 1886 and raised to an independent parish. After the old church became too small, today's church was built between 1902 and 1905.
