Even today, dairy farming , animal husbandry and, to a lesser extent, arable farming play an important role in the income structure of the population. Some other jobs are available in local small businesses and in the service sector. This includes kitchen construction companies and a mechanical workshop. history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1247 under the name Chavanes . The place name is derived from the vulgar Latin capanna (hut, small courtyard). In the Middle Ages , Chavannes-les-Forts belonged to the lords of Ecublens, who sold the village to Peter II of Savoy in 1262 .

When the Bernese conquered Vaud in 1536, Chavannes-les-Forts came under the rule of Friborg and was assigned to the Bailiwick of Romont. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), the village belonged to the Romont district during the Helvetic and the following period and was incorporated into the Glâne district in 1848. After the villagers had voted with a yes majority of 69% in favor of the municipal merger, Chavannes-les-Forts was incorporated into Siviriez on January 1, 2004, together with Prez-vers-Siviriez and Villaraboud .
