Union King

As Union kings , the kings of were Kalmar Union referred. The kings of Denmark were under the different in Kalmar agreements concluded and recesses in personal union since 1397 kings of Norway and Sweden. The first of these union kings was Erik of Pomerania . Erik was deposed by the councilors of all three kingdoms in 1439, and Christoph III became the new Union King . elected. The Swedish efforts to shake off Danish domination led to the so-called Union Wars . In the years 1448–1457, 1464–1497 and 1501–1520, the Danish Union kings Christian I and John I could not enforce their claims in Sweden. The Swedish imperial administrator Karl Knutsson Bonde sought the role of Union King himself in the meantime. With the overthrow of the last union king, Christian II , the Kalmar Union ended in 1523.

The Swedish kings, who were also kings of Norway from 1319 to 1355 and from 1814 to 1905 in personal union, are also occasionally referred to as Union kings.
