Carl victory
Carl Sieg (born August 4, 1784 in Magdeburg ; † April 13, 1845 there ) was a German portrait painter and lithographer .
Life
Carl Sieg was the son of the bookbinder Friedrich Christian Sieg. At first he began an apprenticeship in his father's profession, but then turned to painting and drawing. He studied at the Royal Magdeburg Provincial Art School before 1802 . There is only approximate information about his further training. Most likely he continued his studies around 1802, but no later than 1807 at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and Mechanical Sciences in Berlin. At least his participation in the Berlin Academy exhibition is guaranteed.
In 1808, Sieg then made his way to Paris to receive further artistic training there. During the journey he met the painter and wood sculptor Franz Catel , with whom he then worked in Neuweiler , Alsace . Sieg stayed in Paris from 1809 to 1813. He became a student at the École des beaux-arts and in the studios of François-André Vincent and Jacques-Louis David .
From 1813 to 1816 he spent a long time in Rome before finally returning to Magdeburg from 1816. Only from 1819 to 1821 did he stay outside his hometown for a longer period, this time in Berlin.
In Magdeburg he lived at Alter Markt 1 and also worked as a bookbinder and paper dealer.
