history

After the formation of the state of Schleswig-Holstein, the previous administrative districts were dissolved in 1947. The district council of the Rendsburg district decided on January 26, 1948 to establish the Achterwehr office on August 1, 1948, initially with the communities of Achterwehr, Felde, Melsdorf, Ottendorf and Quarnbek. In 1963, the Melsdorf district of Mettenhof was transferred to Kiel as a district. In its current form, the Achterwehr office was created in 1970 from the old Achterwehr office, the old Westensee office (with the Westensee municipality) and the old Bovenau office (with the Bredenbek and Krummwisch municipalities). In 1976 the northern area of the municipality of Deutsch Nienhof was incorporated into the municipality of Westensee and thus also assigned to the Achterwehr office.

The head of the office is Mrs. Anne Katrin Kittmann. Since July 1, 2008, the Achterwehr office has been administered full-time. The management of the administration is currently entrusted to Joachim Brand, who was elected for six years with effect from July 1, 2016.

There are day-care centers with different sponsors in the communities of Achterwehr, Bredenbek, Felde, Melsdorf, Quarnbek and Westensee.

Attractions

The more than 200 year old and fully restored Eider Canal lock in the municipality of Krummwisch is worth seeing. The predecessor of today's Kiel Canal, the old Eider Canal, has been preserved in its original form almost everywhere.

Development and development

In 1989, after a long period of planning, the Federal Motorway 210 was completed. With the connection points Melsdorf, Achterwehr and Bredenbek, this runs through the official area from east to west. This relieved the previously heavily frequented through-roads in Achterwehr and Bredenbek from long-distance traffic.

In all municipalities of the office, zoning plans have been drawn up or are being drawn up or are already being revised. While before the construction of the autobahn construction activities were more pronounced in the suburbs of Melsdorf, Ottendorf and Quarnbek, today the desire for new building land runs through almost all of the municipalities in the district. According to the specifications of the state planning, some municipalities can and want to develop more strongly than other municipalities in the administrative area. The rural central town of Felde and the municipality of Bredenbek with the existing infrastructure are of particular importance. Other municipalities, such as the municipality of Krummwisch, want to establish the village character of their municipality by drawing up a zoning plan. In addition to the designation of new residential construction areas, the designation of suitable areas for commercial settlement is also being considered or this has already been partially implemented.

The drinking water supply for the municipalities of Felde, Achterwehr, the district of Flemhude of the municipality of Quarnbek and the districts of Groß-Nordsee, Jägerslust and Frauendamm of the municipality of Krummwisch are ensured from the waterworks of the office in the municipality of Felde. The municipalities of Melsdorf and Ottendorf obtain their drinking water from Stadtwerke Kiel AG. The municipality of Bredenbek has its own central municipal drinking water supply. Outside areas of the municipalities and individual districts are supplied by individual wells and water communities / water cooperatives.

The Kiel – Rendsburg railway runs through the office . At the beginning of 2015, new stops were opened in Melsdorf, Achterwehr and Bredenbeck and the existing Felde station expanded.

disposal

The Achterwehr Office has founded a GmbH together with Schleswag Disposal, in which the Office has a 51% stake and Schleswag 49%. For most of the Achterwehr office, a central sewage treatment plant has been built on the Holzkoppel in the Quarnbek community. Only the municipalities of Ottendorf and Melsdorf dispose of in the sewage works of the city of Kiel. The central wastewater disposal has been completed in almost all municipalities. In some municipalities, the retrofitting for the so-called outside area is still missing, these are detached houses or courtyards that cannot be connected to the central waste water disposal due to the great distance.

Service community in the Achterwehr office

Since the new construction of the office building in Achterwehr in 1970, it has had to be expanded and rebuilt several times, both due to the constant increase in the number of residents in the official area and the transfer of more and more tasks to the administration. In 2000, the then planning for a further expansion was carried out together with the police, so that since the beginning of 2002 the Achterwehr police station has also had its headquarters in the official building and a joint service could be implemented together with the police.
