Rainer Korff

Rainer Korff (born January 15, 1955 in Bad Harzburg ) is a lieutenant general a. D. of the army of the Bundeswehr . Most recently he was commander of German units in multinational corps / basic military organization at the Army Command in Strausberg .

Military career

Training and first uses

Korff entered the service of the Bundeswehr in 1973 with the Air Defense Battalion 2 in Kassel , part of the Army Air Defense Force , as an officer candidate .

After completing his officer training, he was made a lieutenant on April 1, 1975 and deployed as a platoon leader officer in the 3 anti-aircraft battalion in Hamburg , which was reclassified to the 3 anti-aircraft regiment in 1977. On April 1, 1978 he was promoted to first lieutenant . After this assignment he was used in 1979 in the same regiment as an S2 officer (head of staff department S2). In 1980 he was transferred to the 11th anti-aircraft regiment in Achim , where he became battery chief . During this employment he was promoted to captain on April 1, 1981 .

General staff training and service as a staff officer

From 1985 to 1987 Korff completed the 28th Army General Staff course at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg. After this course he was employed at the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn as a consultant in the personnel management of the general staff officers. On October 1, 1988, he was promoted to major. In 1989 he became department head G3 of Panzer Brigade 2 in Braunschweig . During this time he was appointed lieutenant colonel on October 1, 1991 . Subsequently, in 1992, he took over the post of division manager G1 in the 4th Panzer Grenadier Division in Regensburg .

In 1993 he returned to Achim, took over the 11th anti-tank gun regiment as commander and led it until he was reassigned to the Federal Ministry of Defense in 1995, where he again became an officer in personnel management, this time responsible for the colonels in the army . In 1998 he was reassigned to the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg as a course leader and lecturer at the 40th Army General Staff Course, and on October 1 of the same year he was appointed Colonel. In 1999 he returned to the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn and became head of the personnel department for general staff officers, colonels and generals of the army.

General uses

In 2001 Korff became the commander of Panzerbrigade 18 "HOLSTEIN" in Boostedt , which he commanded until April 30, 2005. Associated with this assignment was his appointment as Brigadier General on April 1, 2004. On April 8, 2005, the general took over his new post as head of the Army headquarters in Cologne, which he led until it was dissolved on December 31, 2006. In the course of the transformation of the Bundeswehr, the main offices of the Army, Air Force and Navy were combined to form the main office of the Bundeswehr (SDBw). This new office was put into service on October 5, 2006 by State Secretary Peter Wichert and its management was transferred to Korff. His appointment as major general on October 1, 2006 was associated with this new post .

On September 24, 2009, Manfred Hofmann followed him to the post of head of the SDBw. Korff himself was transferred to the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg in preparation for his future assignment. On December 17, 2009 he took over from Zdzisław Goral and was appointed Lieutenant General, the post of Commanding General of the Multinational Corps North-East in Szczecin , Poland . He was released from this position on December 19, 2012. On January 7, 2013, he began his service at the Army Command as Commander of German Shares in Multinational Corps / Basic Military Organization.

On September 8, 2016, Korff was released from this job and retired with a big tattoo in Munster.

Others

Korff lives in Büdelsdorf near Rendsburg in Schleswig-Holstein . He is married with two children and in his free time he is involved in politics and contemporary history. At the reception for the commissioning of the Bundeswehr headquarters, he waived the usual inaugural gifts and instead asked for donations for the “Help Laugh” campaign.
