Peter Wichert

Peter Wichert (born April 8, 1945 in Danzig ) is a German political official . From 1991 to 2000 and again from 2005 to 2009 he was State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg). Since February 2012 he has been a member of the Advisory Board for Inner Leadership at the BMVg.

Life and education

After graduation in 1964 at the Immanuel-Kant-Gymnasium in Rüsselsheim and two years' service as a reserve officer candidate in the armored infantry troops of the Bundeswehr studied Wichert law in Heidelberg and graduated as Dr. jur. utr. Wichert is lieutenant colonel in the reserve.

He is married and has one child.

Wichert began his civil service career in 1974 at the federal property administration in the regional finance office in Cologne. After moving to the Federal Ministry of Finance , where he worked in the Money and Credit Department, he worked from 1979 to 1981 for the International Monetary Fund in Washington, DC (USA).

From 1984 to 1986 Wichert worked in the German Bundestag as a consultant for the finance working group of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group.

In 1989 he moved to the Federal Ministry of Defense as head of the ministerial office, where he was head of the planning staff from 1990 .

State Secretary

His appointment as State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Defense took place in 1991 under the then Defense Minister Gerhard Stoltenberg ( CDU ). Wichert was in office under the then Defense Ministers Volker Rühe (CDU) and Rudolf Scharping ( SPD ) until 2000 and was finally put into temporary retirement in 2000.

On December 16, 2005, Wichert was again appointed State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Defense, this time under the then Defense Minister Franz Josef Jung (CDU).

Due to the allegation that the ministry was reluctant to provide information to the minister regarding an air attack near Kunduz on September 4, 2009, Wichert was released from his duties on November 26, 2009 by the then Defense Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg after the editors of the Bild newspaper informed the minister on that morning an investigation report of the military police had passed, stated by the zu Guttenberg to did not know him until then. At the same time zu Guttenberg also accepted the resignation of General Inspector Wolfgang Schneiderhan on the same day.

Under Guttenberg's successor as Minister Thomas de Maizière , Peter Wichert returned to the Federal Ministry of Defense in February 2012, where he is a member of the Advisory Board for Inner Leadership.
